Vdmabdifdbrzvei Export Financing For German Power Plant Technology At Risk Industry Associations Take A Stance

Export financing for German power plant technology

The contribution that German power plant technology makes towards climate protection and safeguarding Germany as a business base is still dependent on effective export and financing instruments

Reliance on energy from coal power plants will continue to rise worldwide

Economic growth, especially in emerging and developing countries, and the aspiration of their peoples for prosperity will continue to cause a worldwide increase in energy demand. Numerous countries will, also due to the availability of fossil fuels, be able to satisfy this demand with conventional forms of power generation. According to figures from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the number of coal fired power plants to be built between 2011 and 2035 will have a total capacity of over 764 gigawatts (GW). In addition there will also be replacement investments for a capacity of 100 to 200 GW.

Instruments to secure financing support cutting edge technology and climate protection

Germany has an excellent reputation for being a reliable partner in developing energy infrastructures worldwide. By supplying the best engineering solutions, German power plant technology supports customers across the world in achieving security of supply, cost effectiveness and environmental compatibility while also contributing to climate protection. In the past, instruments for securing export and project financing by institutions like the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) have proven to be effective. They support the presence of the export-oriented German power generation technology industry – and consequently their contribution to climate protection – on the world markets, and are a key prerequisite for investment in all levels of the value added chain for coal power plant technology in Germany.
