London, March 20, 2018: The Energy Industries Council (EIC), the leading trade association for companies that supply goods and services to the energy industries worldwide, celebrated its 75th anniversary on 15 March by holding an exclusive members’ afternoon tea at the House of Lords hosted by Lord Popat and with special guest of honour Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion, Baroness Rona Fairhead.
Approximately 100 EIC members, representing companies of all sizes from across the full range of energy sectors, plus EIC staff and friends from industry and government attended the afternoon tea, which included speeches from Lord Popat, PM Trade Envoy for Uganda and Rwanda, Baroness Fairhead, Minister of State for International Trade and Export Promotion, EIC CEO Stuart Broadley and EIC Hon. President Chris Haynes.
The EIC, which was founded in London in 1943 by 13 power supply chain companies that wanted to diversify and export into oil and gas markets abroad, has grown to include over 600-member organisations covering the oil and gas, power, nuclear and renewables sectors, and now has a global network of seven offices in London, Aberdeen, Teesside, Dubai, Houston, Kuala Lumpur and Rio de Janeiro.
In addition to the House of Lords event, the EIC will be holding a series of inclusive events and activities throughout the year at all its locations, as well as a charity bike ride. Starting from the EIC’s Aberdeen office, stopping in at its Teesside location and finishing at its London HQ the team of EIC riders will cover approximately 600 miles in five days, on 8-12 June.
The proceeds from all EIC 75th celebratory events will go to two charities chosen by EIC staff: Cancer Research UK and the Ocean Cleanup.
Commenting on the EIC’s 75th anniversary, EIC CEO Stuart Broadley said, ‘The House of Lords afternoon tea was a wonderful occasion to celebrate with our members as well as thank them for all their support over the years.
‘I’m incredibly proud to say that four member companies have been with us since the very beginning: ABB, Cape, Siemens, albeit all now known by different names, and Motherwell Bridge whose name has remained unchanged.
‘An anniversary is a fitting time to reflect on the years gone by and all that we, our members and the industry as a whole has accomplished during that time. It’s also a good time to look to the future.
‘At the EIC we’ve got lots of exciting new initiatives planned, such as our EIC Supply Chain Map, the first ever database to detail the full capability of UK suppliers across all energy sectors, the roll out of our OPEX database EICAssetMap globally over the next five years, or the EIC Innovation Matchmaking service which will pair operators and contractors’ requirements with UK supply chain proven solutions, all designed to support our members’ businesses and the industry to grow and flourish.
