SgurrEnergy develops onshore wind health and safety guidelines for RenewableUK

Leading renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy, has developed the Onshore Wind Health and Safety Guidelines 2015 on behalf of the UK’s renewable energy trade association, RenewableUK.

The guidelines aim to assist those involved in onshore wind energy projects, at any stage of the lifecycle in understanding and managing health and safety risks effectively and in compliance with their legal duties.

Chris Streatfeild, director of health and safety at RenewableUK, said: “We are delighted to have now launched the RenewableUK Onshore Health and Safety Guidelines to complement the companion Offshore Wind & Marine version issued in 2013. SgurrEnergy, the main author, has again gone above and beyond in the delivery of this project for what we expect will be regarded as an industry benchmark publication for many years ahead. SgurrEnergy’s quality management and professionalism throughout this project is to be commended.”

SgurrEnergy’s principal engineer and author of the guidelines, David Malcolm, said: “The guidelines are not just for health and safety specialists – anyone working on a wind farm has responsibility for health and safety and these guidelines aim to give concise and targeted advice, together with links to definitive sources of more detailed guidance.

“Integrating health and safety good practice into the management of projects and activities not only helps to keep people safe, but also avoids the delays and costs that can occur if hazards are only recognised at a later stage.”

SgurrEnergy has previously prepared guidelines for RenewableUK and the G9 Offshore Wind Health and Safety Association, as well as assisting leading wind turbine manufacturers and project developers with health and safety management.
