Amsterdam, 27 May – Today Dutch maritime technology company Micanti has closed an investment round with Pindustry to finance the global roll-out of its proprietary antifouling. Pindustry is an independent investment company investing in innovative industrial enterprises.
Micanti has developed a 100% environmentally friendly antifouling, called Thorn-D®. Thorn-D® antifouling is not a paint like incumbent antifouling systems; it is a self-adhesive foil which is applied on the hull of a vessel, forming a physical barrier against marine growth such as mussels and barnacles. As fouling is prevented, ships can sail more economical as there is no increase in fuel consumption, and it is environmental-friendly at the same time. The lifespan of Thorn-D® is at least 5 years, allowing ship owners to save time and fuel. In addition, Thorn-D® works when the ship sails, but also when it is moored.
Market expansion
At present Micanti is active in the offshore sector in The Netherlands and the Middle East. Its client base consists of market leading companies like: Damen Shipyards, Fugro, Vroon, Halul Offshore and Dockwise. Micanti now wishes to expand towards Asia and America, where it already has received a lot of attention from ship owners. Micanti will also pursue market opportunities in other shipping segments such as cargo.
