Gemini Energy Services has been awarded $74,100 in job training funds from The California Labor and Workforce Development Agency’s Employment Training Panel’s Small Business Program. The funds will be used to train 19 of Gemini’s San Diego-based, all veteran team of technicians to provide operations and maintenance services to the Wind Industry, one of ETP’s green/clean priority industries.
“ETP is committed to supporting the revitalization of California’s economy through strategic allocation of program resources and focused investment,” said ETP Director Brian McMahon. “We will continue to move toward training that promotes job creation and retention in emerging sectors, while investing in California’s key existing industries.”
ETP is a business and labor supported state agency that assists employers in strengthening their competitive edge by providing funds to partially off-set costs of job skills training necessary to maintain high-performance workplaces. Since its inception in 1983, the ETP program has provided close to $1.2 billion for the training and employment retention of 720,000 workers for approximately 75,000 California companies. Employers match training funds awarded through ETP contracts, making these projects true public-private partnerships.
Gemini’s business model includes hiring newly discharged veterans and training them as Wind Turbine Technicians. “Gemini’s mission is to provide employment for veterans transitioning from the military into the Wind Industry. As a veteran myself, I enjoy being able to match veterans with our clients seeking a technically proficient, well disciplined, and safety-focused workforce,” said Jim Haley, Operations Director for Gemini Energy Services.
“Our success is built on the sound technical skills and proven background possessed by transitioning veterans, and providing them with top-notch Wind and OSHA training to prepare them for success in their career in the Wind Industry.”
Gemini Energy Services, a division of Orion ICS, LLC, deploys its Turbine Technicians to wind farm project developers, manufacturers, and owner/operators across the U.S. for Commissioning, O&M, and Calibration Services.
