Dietmar Harting, President and Partner of the HARTING Technology Group, has been awarded the gold pin by the DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE Deutsche Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik im DIN und VDE [VDE|DKE]). The entrepreneur, who will step down at the end of the year as Chairman of the DKE, a position which he has held for twelve years, will now become Honorary Chairman – a distinction that has been awarded for the first time in the DKE’s history. Former EU Commissioner Günter Verheugen paid impressive tribute to Dietmar Harting in his award ceremony speech.
“With this award, we would like to thank Dietmar Harting for his many years of commitment as DKE Chairman, and honor his outstanding contributions to the visionary restructuring of the German standardization system,” commented Dr. Bernhard Thies, spokesman of the DKE management. As DKE Chairman, Dietmar Harting has been decisively committed to the German standardization strategy that aims to advance standards and standardization in securing Germany’s position as one of the leading economic nations, and opening up markets. Mr. Harting made significant contributions to the European Standardization System (ESS) in his function as President of CENELEC 2008/2009, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, and launched the Future Landscape of European Standardization (FLES). The DKE is Germany’s organization for the development of standards and standardization in electrical engineering, electronics and information technology. The organization is supported by the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies, and the DIN German Institute for Standardization. The DKE represents Germany at the European level within CENELEC, and internationally on the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Dietmar Harting has been an honorary member of the VDE since 2006. In acknowledgement of his commitment to standardization at national and international levels he was awarded the Cross of Merit, First Class, as well as the DIN Ring of Honor, among other honors conferred in 2009. Mr. Harting has been honorary president of the ZVEI German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (Zentralverbands Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V.) since 2004, and amember of the NPE National Platform for Electromobility (Nationale Plattform für Elektromobilität) since 2010.
