A business desk is set to open in Denmark this week, to help establish and strengthen networks across Europe between companies involved in the renewable energy sector supply chain.
Green Port Hull, working in partnership with the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, will launch the business desk in Copenhagen on Tuesday 22nd September 2015. The business desk will be run by the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark. The chambers will engage with both Danish and UK businesses and act as a signpost for those that want to access supply chain opportunities with Green Port Hull.
The partnership will promote inward investment opportunities for Danish businesses at Green Port Hull and present potential joint venture and supply chain opportunities for businesses in Denmark and in Hull and the East Riding. The objective is to capitalise on the current high profile investments in Green Port Hull including £310m by Siemens and Associated British Ports.
A delegation from Hull, including civic leaders from both Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire Councils and local businesses representatives, will attend a dinner in Copenhagen to mark the launch of the business desk.
Councillor Anita Harrison, The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, said:
“I am delighted to be opening this business desk in Denmark this week and I hope this move will encourage businesses in Denmark to take an active interest in investing into the growing Green Port brand and the Humber’s renewables sector.
“We, as a city, have a long-term vision to establish Hull and the East Riding as a world-class leader in green energy and people are starting to recognise both nationally and internationally the critical role Hull is playing in its growth strategy for economic prosperity.
“The Humber is fast becoming established as the UK’s energy estuary and the desk will allow us to capitalise on potential inward investment opportunities.”

The Green Port Hull desk in Denmark will be the initial point of contact for Danish businesses while the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce will handle enquiries from UK businesses. Together they will evaluate the requests and manage the delivery process.

The desk will be officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Anita Harrison, and Councillor Peter Turner, Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and will be managed by Mariano Davies, CEO of the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark (BCCD-BIU). The BCCD-BIU is a bilateral Chamber for British and Danish business people in Denmark.

Green Port Hull will involve the £310m regeneration and development of Alexandra Dock, an existing operational port complex, by Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP). This will include the construction of a new wind turbine assembly and blade manufacturing and export facility, a 600m riverside berth and the reclamation of part of the enclosed dock water area to create new land.
It has the potential to be the single biggest influence on Hull’s economy for generations. Once fully operational the facility will employ 1,000 people directly on site and create thousands of support roles within new and existing supply chain businesses.
In addition to this is the establishment of the Green Port Growth Programme, which is administered by East Riding and Hull City Councils. With an investment of over £26m the programme, which is supported by the Regional Growth Fund, is designed to capitalise on renewable opportunities and to develop indigenous business growth within the renewable sector, securing long-term economic growth for the region. The project aims to provide continual support to help local businesses recognise and embrace potential opportunities within the renewables sector.
The Regional Growth Fund (RGF) has supported eligible projects and programmes raising private sector investment to create economic growth and lasting employment. It has invested £2.85bn to help businesses in England to grow; and is expected to create or safeguard over 580,000 jobs.
