Meet the Innovation

PES discovers the background to GeoSea, part of the DEME group, from Christopher Iwens, General Manager of DEME’s German Subsidiaries. It was also an opportunity to hear about the recently completed work on the offshore windfarm Nordsee One …

DEME has a rich history that dates back to 1852. The company has evolved from a local Belgian dredging company into a highly specialised, versatile hydraulic engineering and environmental group. 40 % percent of our current turnover is generated from activities that did not even exist 30 years ago. For the past 140 years, the group has expanded organically, both in terms of depth and breadth
In 2005, DEME established GeoSea, grouping the company’s geotechnical and foundation specialists. This was done in order to meet the needs of the marine infrastructure market, the upcoming renewables market and the evolving oil & gas industry. Today, the company’s focus is on building offshore wind farms and foundations for jetties and mooring systems, as well as the installation of complex infrastructures at sea. GeoSea has evolved from an offshore foundation contractor to a reputable Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) solution provider. Over the years, GeoSea has expanded its fleet, which has resulted in an impressive series of jack-up vessels. The company is expecting worldwide issues such as climate change and the growing demand for energy to increase and is ready to take the challenge.

At the moment, we operate the largest and most modern offshore installation ship for foundations: the ‘Innovation’. The name is really apt, because innovation and a pioneering spirit have always been central to DEME throughout its history. This, together with our teams of highly specialised people is what makes us the market leader.
