Wind industry satisfied after successful on-site trade fair in Husum

About 8,500 trade visitors visited the HUSUM Wind fair / 387 exhibitors and associations draw a positive balance / CEO Klaus Liermann: “The fair was buzzing almost as in normal times”

Husum | 17 September 2021 – Today marks the end of HUSUM Wind 2021, the industry’s first major on-site trade fair this year. Around 8,500 trade visitors flocked to the wind industry’s flagship fair in Schleswig-Holstein over the last four days. On 20,000 square metres of exhibition space, 387 exhibitors from Germany and abroad presented the current performance status of the wind industry along the value chain. OEMs showed their new onshore product portfolios, innovative products from bolt-check systems to robotics and drone technology to augmented reality apps for wind farm planning celebrated their premiere at the fair. HUSUM Wind has always been a strong sales platform characterized by practical relevance and a high level of technical expertise. This year’s trend topics at the fair were new value creation through wind energy and green hydrogen, domestic markets, skilled workers, service and sector coupling.

“With this fair, the industry has shown that it is ready to move forward for the energy turnaround,” sums up Klaus Liermann, head of the fair. “It took courage and commitment on the part of the companies in mid-June to go along with the decision to do the fair. Since day one there has been an exuberant spirit of optimism, the safety precautions are taking effect, business is booming.” Matthias Zelinger, Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems and Head of the Competence Center Climate & Energy, adds: “The fair exceeded our expectations under the given circumstances. We are very pleased that Husum Wind was able to take place as a presence event and are convinced that Husum was able to send out important signals and messages for wind energy and climate protection in the run-up to the federal election.”

Shortly before the federal election, associations and more than 80 companies from the industry once again clearly increased the pressure on the coming federal government with the “Husum Appeal” at the start of the trade fair with regard to the urgently needed expansion of wind energy to achieve the climate targets. Press reports already say that this year’s HUSUM Wind was the most political of all recent wind fairs. “The industry has shown all along the line here at Husum Wind that it is ready to deliver,” summarises Hermann Albers, President of the German Wind Energy Association (BWE e. V.) and demands: “But now we urgently need more Schleswig-Holstein in Berlin.” The importance of wind energy for a new energy policy, Germany as a business location and climate targets was the subject of many debates, forums and panels at this year’s fair. “We need a significant acceleration of offshore wind expansion as well as a rapid entry into the production of ‘green’ hydrogen on an industrial scale. This is about sector coupling. To achieve this, it is important to have a roadmap for the energy transition and a comprehensive networking of political departments,” Heike Winkler, Managing Director of the Wind and Hydrogen Association and Innovation Cluster WAB e. V., made clear at the new “Wind Industry & Green Hydrogen Forum” organised by the association. To promote this type of networking between market participants, the range of matchmaking and cooperation exchanges as well as business lounges at HUSUM Wind was significantly increased this year.

The fair took place under comprehensive security conditions, which included a one-way system, test stations, compliance with AHA and GGG rules, and check-in at the stands via Luca App.

The next HUSUM WIND will take place in September 2023.
