Brussels/Port Louis, November 19, 2024 – PV CYCLE, PV Solutions, Leal Group, and Ecoasis, a subsidiary of the ENL Group, have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to establish the first fully dedicated photovoltaic (PV) panel recycling facility in Mauritius. This facility will manage waste from production and post-consumer PV panels, as well as e-waste and energy storage systems, serving Mauritius and other Indian Ocean islands.
This joint venture addresses the growing need for sustainable waste management solutions in the region. Strategically located, the facility will cater to local needs and the broader Indian Ocean area. Each partner contributes distinct expertise: PV Solutions brings innovative recycling methods through its exclusive partnership with PV CYCLE and their technical know-how, Leal Group provides operational leadership, and Ecoasis supports with logistical and technical infrastructure.
Driving sustainable innovation and employment, the initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities while tackling the pressing issue of solar and electronic waste. It represents a pivotal step toward reducing landfill dependency, lowering carbon emissions from exporting waste, and promoting a circular economy. The facility is positioned to revolutionize how the region manages renewable energy technology at the end of its life cycle.
Jan Clyncke, Managing Director of PV CYCLE, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Mauritius and the Indian Ocean region signal a vital market for PV CYCLE. This collaboration allows us to support small countries and islands in developing robust waste treatment and recycling services for e-waste, energy storage systems, and PV panels.”
Neelam Ramrekha, Founder and CEO of PV Solutions, shared her enthusiasm: “The support from PV CYCLE, Leal Group, and ENL Group through Ecoasis is monumental. We are excited to inaugurate our first facility in 2025, marking a significant milestone in sustainable waste management.”
Eric Leal, CEO of Leal Group, highlighted the initiative’s alignment with their sustainability goals: “As a pioneer in photovoltaic energy systems and a significant consumer of solar energy, this project resonates deeply with our sustainability objectives. Managing the full life cycle of our products is essential, and this partnership enables us to foster innovation and ensure a comprehensive environmental solution for the PV panels we’ve installed.”
Gilbert Espitalier-Noël, CEO of the ENL Group, stressed the broader impact: “Our energy strategy focuses on transitioning to green electricity and achieving energy efficiency. This facility expands Ecoasis’ capacity to offer locally driven solutions, supporting Mauritius and the Indian Ocean islands with tailored recycling services.”
Didier Philogene, CEO of Ecoasis, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability: “At Ecoasis, sustainability is at the heart of our mission. This collaboration with PV Solutions reinforces our dedication to eco-friendly practices and the circular economy, ensuring we remain ‘Your energy solutions partner for a sustainable future’.”
