PES takes a closer look at one of Multi Contact’s most-trusted pieces of equipment.
With the MC4PLUS, Multi-Contact introduced a PV connector to the market which is especially designed for internationally operating module manufacturers.
The MC4PLUS is the first connector worldwide to be recognised for both 1500 VDC TÜV and 1000 VDC UL, and within these performance parameters the connector is able to meet new demands evoked by permanently increasing cable cross sections.
By adding the MC4PLUS connector to the original MC4 system, Multi-Contact broadens the portfolio by an automatically assembled connection solution which can be produced at low cost with consistent high quality.
An innovative integrated sealing concept enables high protection classes IP65 and IP68. The snap-in latch in conformity with NEC 2011 ensures maximum dependability.
Pre-assembled with cables of cross sections from 2,5 up to 6mm², the MC4PLUS is ‘intermateable’ with the MC4, allowing for PV installations to be completely cabled with the MC4 system.
The consistent use of systems by the same manufacturer ensures that TÜV and UL recognition remain valid. Neither of these institutions recognise connections made with connectors from different manufacturers.
The flat build of the compact connector simplifies installation in narrow spaces, e.g. in substructures or facade constructions. Clearly audible engagement confirms that the connector is locked, which is crucial for correct installation in difficult circumstances. A version for field assembly is planned for the near future.
Equipped with MC Multilam Technology the MC4 system ensures efficient power transmission with low contact resistance and little power loss. Thanks to the high contact force the connectors are extremely reliable and long-lasting.
