European BYD Battery-Box service centres show that customer service and social responsibility can go hand-in hand


Shenzhen/Berlin, October 17, 2022 – Sustainability is more than just a single concept. For BYD Co. Ltd., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable batteries, sustainability is part of the company’s core values and considered in as many business areas as possible. A very good example are the European service centres in Spain, where BYD not only executes system analyses of locally used components to feed-back findings to the company’s R&D teams. BYD Battery-Box also partners with social enterprise ILUNION for staffing, providing sustainable job positions for people with disabilities.

The BYD Battery-Box division and the European Service partner EFT Systems have two European service centers in Spain, which are used for a multitude of product training, testing and analysis purposes. One center for example simulates a sophisticated microgrid that contains eight different inverters from varied compatible inverter brands. This is not only used to support internal and external training, but also provides the possibility to do local product testing in the European market. Test results – e.g. from BCUs returning from applications can then be shared immediately with BYD’s R&D teams to continuously improve the product functions and features.

The main service center, based in central Spain in the province of Guadalajara, is focused on checking and, if necessary, repairing battery modules and system parts. This center is staffed by ILUNION. The social enterprise has a unique business model with the ultimate goal to generate quality employment for people with disabilities. All the data collected form the product and material analyses is feed-back to the BYD R&D and product development. The learnings – e.g. from the material behavior can then be used to further improve the products. Repairs of parts are also part of the sustainability mission in order to minimize waste and to re-use material as much as possible. For this service center the BYD Battery-Box team partners with ILUNION who provide the service center facility and staffing, while BYD provides the equipment and pays the staff.
