An opportunity for solar to shine

The latest solar technologies, applications and market insights will be at Intersolar Europe 2012. PES takes a look…

Intersolar Europe, the world’s largest exhibition for the solar industry opens its doors from June 13-15, 2012. This year offers 170.000 square meters in 15 exhibition halls and an outdoor area at the exhibition grounds of “Messe München” in Munich/Germany. The hosts expect about 2,000 exhibitors at this year’s event. As in former years the exhibition again consists of three major parts: the big exhibition space for Photovoltaics (PV), the exhibition halls focusing on PV Production Technology, and the area focusing on Solar Thermal Technologies. Additionally there are several special exhibitions, like the “PV ENERGY WORLD” or “PV and E-Mobility”.

Accompanying the exhibition, experts from all over the world will discuss in depth the important and current topics of the solar industry at the Intersolar Europe Conference. The conference is taking place from June 11-14, 2012, at the ICM – Internationales Congress Center München. Around 2,500 attendees and 400 speakers will meet at the conference panels and several side events.

New opportunities for advanced solar technologies

2011 was an important year for the energy transition. Again, the international solar industry generated records, with a new high reached in the expansion of newly-installed photovoltaic capacities. According to the latest figures from the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) in Brussels, photovoltaic installations with a total capacity of 27.7 gigawatt peak (GWp) were put into operation during 2011, three quarters of them in Europe. The key markets were Germany and Italy, each adding around 7.5 GWp of capacity. With new installations totaling 2.2 GWp, China became the world’s third largest PV market in 2011. In order to take full advantage of this capacity in the future, the industry is ever more focusing on finding
