WBD advises RWE on new hub to enhance collaboration in offshore wind projects

The energy team at law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has advised leading clean energy company RWE Renewables on the creation of RWE’s new Grimsby Hub operations base, which has been set up to enhance collaboration.

The hub will support the offshore renewables teams so they can work together on constructing the many and diverse offshore windfarm projects in RWE’s portfolio. It will enable project teams to work together to share expertise and best practice in a more collaborative way as well as bring significant cost savings to projects. The hub will also offer teams purpose built facilities to provide essential services to the crews constructing the windfarms including docking facilities at ABP’s Grimsby Port.

The new hub will sit alongside existing premises and will initially be used by the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm and the Sofia Windfarm, the largest offshore wind project in RWE’s current portfolio, both of which are located off the east coast of England.

The WBD team advising RWE was led by legal director Jo Beattie-Edwards and supported by partner Simon Hughes, associate Sarah Dinshaw and trainee solicitor Lucy Crew. The firm provided key real estate and commercial expertise on the project.

Jo Beattie-Edwards commented: “It has been a pleasure working with our longstanding client RWE on the launch of its new hub, which will play a key part in fostering collaboration and the sharing of best practice on offshore wind renewables projects. Our understanding of the client coupled with our strong real estate expertise meant we were able to secure a successful outcome for all parties.”

Ranking in the UK’s top 20 law firms, WBD provides comprehensive legal service to clients across a wide range of sectors, from seven cities across the UK, and 19 offices in the US. Since the earliest renewables projects over 25 years ago, the firm has advised key energy sector clients ranging from leading independents to major utilities and infrastructure funds.
