Wind industry shows confidence at Husum Wind / 390 exhibitors expect 8,000 trade visitors / Before Bundestag elections: Husum appeal for increased wind expansion published
Husum | 14 September 2021 – It is a special day for the wind industry: Husum Wind successfully opened its doors today as a full-presence trade fair. After one and a half years, the leading German wind trade fair is thus once again the first major on-site event for the wind industry and, after the IAA in Munich, one of the first ever on-site trade fairs this year. Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Energy Jan Philipp Albrecht ceremoniously opened the showcase of the wind industry, where 390 exhibitors from Germany and other core markets such as Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands will be presenting product innovations and the latest technology in the Husum exhibition halls over the next four days. “The Husum Wind trade fair is an important driver for the energy turnaround. Wind power will play a key role in supplying green electricity to achieve climate protection goals,” Albrecht told 250 invited guests from business, politics and associations.
Brandenburg’s Minister of Economics and Energy, Dr Jörg Steinbach, also made an appearance at the opening. Brandenburg is the official partner state of Husum Wind this year. The federal state, which ranks second among the German states in terms of installed wind power capacity and has a successful location policy in the field of renewable energies, will be represented at the fair with a partner stand measuring just under 500 square metres. “The energy turnaround is an important goal, also and especially for Brandenburg. Innovative concepts, such as the participation of citizens or the closer integration of nature conservation and energy transition, as well as technological developments are the guarantee for lasting progress. Renewable energies are also the basis for climate-neutral production, which is becoming increasingly important for investors and strengthens Brandenburg as a location.”
Husum Appeal – Industry sends clear signal to Berlin
Shortly before the federal elections, the national industry associations BWE, BEE and VDMA, together with around 50 leading wind industry companies, published their core demands to the coming federal government in the form of the “Husum Appeal” at the trade fair. The next legislative period will be decisive in terms of climate policy. In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, the appeal said, the expansion of wind energy in Germany must be prioritised and driven forward quickly. The federal government and the federal states need to make a clear commitment to Germany as a wind energy location to secure competitiveness and jobs.
Green hydrogen
The special theme of Husum Wind 2021 is green hydrogen. With this, the wind fair is expanding within the framework of its motto “We think wind further” to include the alternative use of wind energy. For the long-term success of the energy transition, green hydrogen plays a key role as a versatile energy carrier. and the technology is developing rapidly. For the production of green hydrogen, wind energy is the most important renewable source of electricity. This opens up potential along new value chains for trade fair participants from the wind industry. Thus, this year Husum Wind also offers a platform to companies from areas such as the production of electrolysers or sector coupling.
The full-presence fair was made possible by a comprehensive hygiene and safety concept, in the implementation of which Messe Husum & Congress invested a six-figure sum. Measures such as a sophisticated one-way system, Luca app check-in points at every stand and mandatory masks on the grounds, together with the applicable AHA and 3G regulations, ensure that Husum Wind can once again offer the wind industry a genuine and safe trade fair experience.
