Former Australian Prime Minister to speak at Energy Networks Association COP26 event

As the focus of the international community and the global energy industry shifts towards the COP26 summit, Energy Networks Association has today launched a programme of events in the run-up to and during COP26.

Former Australian Prime Minister Hon. Malcolm Turnbull will join a busy panel event in Glasgow, via video-link from Australia, to give an international political perspective on climate policy in action. Audience members will also hear from internationally recognised environmental lawyer, climate change and development policy expert Farhana Yamin, as well as senior representatives from across industry, government and ENA’s membership.

With three events spread over a four-week period, ENA will be delving into the bigger challenges faced by the energy industry in hitting Net Zero, the policies needed, the supply chains to be built and the international trade and investment opportunities which must be seized upon.

Register now to join us at:

Glasgow – Policy Energising Climate Action (5.30pm, 8 November in Glasgow and streamed online): an evening fringe event during and adjacent to the COP26 conference discussing the ways in which good policy can drive climate action. Featuring speakers including former Australian Prime Minister Hon Malcolm Turnbull and internationally recognised environmental lawyer, climate change and development policy expert Farhana Yamin on a panel chaired by journalist, writer and broadcaster Samira Ahmed.
London – Resourcing Net Zero – the supply chains of the future (8am, 26 October in London and streamed online): a breakfast briefing held at the Barbican, featuring speakers from Siemens Energy and Anglo American and chaired by The Sun’s political correspondent Natasha Clark.
Online – Exporting Net Zero – networks at the transition’s new frontier (1pm, 20 October streamed online) featuring speakers from the Office of Zero Emissions Vehicles and Northern Ireland Electricity Networks.
UK energy network companies and ENA are delivering a number of transformational projects across the energy value chain including the Open Networks and Gas Goes Green programmes.

While the pandemic is ongoing, the networks have continued to innovate and work towards Net Zero emissions, while maintaining safe and reliable supplies of energy. Earlier this year ENA announced that in conjunction with Ofgem network companies had unlocked over £300m of early investment in projects to support a green recovery from Covid-19.

David Smith, Chief Executive of Energy Networks Association which represents the UK and Ireland’s energy network businesses said:

“The world’s focus is rightly shifting towards decarbonising transport, homes and industry – areas where energy networks hold a pivotal role, particularly here in the UK. We are privileged to have some well-respected authorities on Net Zero, from the UK and the international community, join us for our COP26 programme. I can’t wait to see you at our events to discuss how within this next stage of the transition we can put the energy behind climate action.”
