Wpd Europes Third Wind Farm In Croatia In Operation

The Ponikve wind farm (Croatia) went into operation as planned on October 20, 2012. It is located approx. 60 km to the North-West of Dubrovnik on the Pelješac peninsula. 16 wind turbine generators of the Enercon E-70 E-4 type with a total output of 36.8 Megawatt shall feed in 68 million kilo Watt hours annually, supplying 60,000 households with environmentally friendly power.

Grid connection is made possible by a wpd owned 20/110 kv transformer station, connected to the transmission network of the net operator HEP by a newly installed 110 kv overhead line with a length of 800 meters. wpd windmanager Croatia shall now take over responsibility for the operation of the wind farm and the transformer station. In addition, the Enercon partner concept for the maintenance of the turbines, concluded for 15 years, provides for smooth operation of the wind farm.

Total investment for the wind farm is 45 million Euros. It is the third wpd wind farm in Croatia, following Trtar-Krtolin (commissioning in 2006) and Olice (2009). wpd’s project manager Andreas Chollet: “By moderate changes in the framework conditions in the spring of 2012, Croatia has confirmed its intention to promote investments in renewable energies. The wpd group, too, is staying on course and we are happy that one of our largest foreign investments has now led to the commissioning of the Ponikve wind farm.”
