World Hydrogen Week relocates to Copenhagen and launches first dedicated decarbonisation event for hard-to-abate and carbon-intensive sectors

  • World Hydrogen Week to launch unique, inaugural “Innovate to Net Zero: Cross-Industry Summit”, a dedicated decarbonisation event tailored to support carbon intensive and hard-to-abate sectors
  • Event relocating to the Nordic region where hydrogen leadership is unmatched
  • Exclusive Summer Breakfast Briefing
  • Over 3,500 attendees from 50 countries to participate in World Hydrogen Week

London, UK – June 17th, 2024: With the urgent need for clean hydrogen to rapidly scale to meet increasing demand and achieve climate goals, World Hydrogen Leaders (now a part of S&P Global Commodity Insights), announce their enhanced World Hydrogen Week, taking place in their new location of Copenhagen, Denmark from 30th September to 4th October 2024.

While there is significant investment and development appetite for hydrogen projects, with abundant feasibility studies and pilots, hydrogen offtake agreements are one of the biggest sticking points in getting hydrogen projects to reach final investment decision (FID). World Hydrogen Week has responded to the vital need to educate potential offtakers by launching the hydrogen industry’s first dedicated summit for hard-to-abate sectors.

“As the hydrogen industry makes unprecedented advancements around the world, from new policies and regulations to projects reaching FID, the hype is now far behind us,” said Nadim Chaudry, Founder, World Hydrogen Leaders. “The time has come to tackle the practical realities of projects on the ground and eliminate bottlenecks to system-wide deployment. Hydrogen offtakers are without doubt the key to progress. Without them, moving projects forward isn’t feasible.”

Manuel Breva, Secretary General, ANFFECC (the Spanish association representing companies from the ceramic frits, glazes and ceramic pigment industries), commented: “Large energy consumers, particularly industries fuelled by natural gas, are increasingly turning to hydrogen as a suitable alternative to current energy sources. The technologies in our sector have reached a high level of maturity, and despite achieving a 42% reduction in CO2emissions in the ceramic frit market since 2005, we need a new type of fuel to meet and exceed the EIB’s Horizon 2030 objectives.”

The 5-day event is one of the largest and most influential in the industry and will host over 3,500 attendees from 50 countries. It will also include, for the first time, guided visits to state-of-the-art, real-world hydrogen production sites and testing facilities in and around Copenhagen.

To celebrate World Hydrogen Week moving their flagship event to Copenhagen, they are hosting their exclusive World Hydrogen Week Summer Breakfast Briefing on 26th June.

The briefing, centred on greentech in the hydrogen supply chain, natural hydrogen, and the business case for hydrogen projects in Denmark, aims to address some of the market’s most significant challenges, opportunities, and key issues. Additionally, it will lay the groundwork for the broader discussions and analyses set to take place at World Hydrogen Week, from September 30th to October 4th.

The conference will continue its inaugural session from 2023 when its two-day hydrogen derivatives programme will further explore emerging hydrogen derivative markets, trends, opportunities and bottlenecks for ammonia, methanol, LOHCs and more.

Keynote speakers are well recognised hydrogen trailblazers and include Fortescue Future Industries, Yara Clean Ammonia, European Commission, Volvo Trucks, EY, Santander, ExxonMobil, Equinor and Topsoe.
