Bucharest, Romania – August 25th, 2026 – WALDEVAR Holding has begun construction of two co-located energy projects in Dobrești, Dolj, on behalf of SANY Group. The development comprises 95 MWp of solar PV, 220 MWh of battery energy storage and the high-voltage infrastructure required for grid connection, and represents a major investment in Romania's clean energy generation and energy security. The project was symbolically inaugurated on Friday, August 14th, when a SANY delegation from China and its partners joined WALDEVAR representatives at the Dobrești construction site, marking the start of a development designed to produce clean energy locally, store it and make it available to the power system when it is needed.

The Dobrești project combines utility-scale solar generation with 220 MWh of battery storage and dedicated high-voltage infrastructure, including a 110 kV/20 transformer substation and a 110 kV underground transmission line. By storing energy generated during the day and making it available after sunset and before sunrise, the project will support a more flexible and stable power system, while enabling the efficient integration of renewable energy into the national grid. The BESS will also provide grid balancing capabilities as Romania continues to expand its renewable energy capacity.

The project will also contribute to Romania’s energy security by increasing the share of electricity produced locally from renewable sources. According to the project estimates, the solar plant is expected to generate approximately 135 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 50,000 households, while avoiding approximately 40,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

For the local community, the project is expected to generate economic activity and employment during the construction and operation phase, while creating long-term value through the production of clean energy in the region.

"We are pleased to strengthen our strategic collaboration with WALDEVAR through this milestone project. Partnering with an industry leader whose local expertise and reputation align with our regional vision gives us immense confidence in our shared success.", added Mr. Guo Ruiguang, Board Chairman for Sany Microgrid Business Unit.

"WALDEVAR’s proven execution capabilities, technical expertise, and solid track record in delivering complex utility-scale infrastructure are crucial for this development. Together, we are fully committed to delivering a project that sets the highest standards for quality, performance, and long-term reliability.", said, Mr. Xuzhongtian , General Manager for Sany Micro Grid Unit.

“For WALDEVAR, the Dobrești project is a milestone at a key moment in the company's development – one defined by its scale, its technical complexity and the execution capacity we are mobilizing. The competitive advantages we hold allow us to deliver projects of this magnitude quickly and efficiently." It is also a strong demonstration of what our strategic partnership with SANY can achieve when we combine our respective capabilities around a major energy infrastructure project. We are proud to start this project together and see significant potential to build on this partnership through further projects in Romania and across Europe,” said Christian Leonte, CEO, WALDEVAR Holding.

As Romania accelerates investment in renewable generation, projects such as the one in Dobrești demonstrate the growing importance of combining clean generation with storage and grid infrastructure. Together, these elements support Romania’s longer-term objectives for energy security, decarbonisation and a more resilient energy system.
