VARTA at the ees Europe

VARTA presents its extended “VARTA pulse neo” energy storage system and cross-product cascading of VARTA storage systems. Also in focus at the trade fair stand: energy cloud solutions, VARTA storage system direct communication and commercial storage systems

In two days’ time, the ees Europe, Europe’s largest international professional trade fair for batteries and energy storage systems, will begin in Munich. At stand B1.210, VARTA Power & Energy will present its energy storage solutions, as well as the second generation of VARTA pulse wall storage systems, the VARTA pulse neo. Thanks to the new operating system, it offers numerous additional functions, particularly for operation in a Smart Home. Another new feature is the general function of cascading VARTA energy storage systems across different products. A range of cloud solutions demonstrate how customers can make the best use of their self-generated power. Representatives of VARTA’s partners, EWE and innogy, will also be at the stand.

VARTA pulse neo with new operating system

The compact VARTA pulse energy storage system has been updated. “This is a huge step forward in terms of development,” explains Gordon Clements, General Manager at VARTA Power & Energy. VARTA’s own linux-based VS-XMS operating system makes countless additional functions possible. Now, VARTA pulse neo can charge on a forecast basis, and is even easier to integrate into Smart Home applications. Thanks to the high-power operating system, individual functions can be continuously added via a software update, without impairing the basic functions. According to Clements: “Our customers can add functions from other providers at any time, such as EV-chargers, hot water systems or weather forecast applications. We therefore offer our customers and installers a choice, and they are not bound to use one single provider.” In other words, new software updates can be installed faster and more easily, and the storage system is equipped for the future demands on the “Internet of Things”.

VARTA pulse and VARTA pulse neo are available in two performance classes (3.3 kWh and 6.5 kWh) and are easily mounted to the wall. The energy storage system can be installed in just 30 minutes, thanks to a plug-and-play facility, and can be combined with all sources of green energy. VARTA pulse neo has a standby consumption of 1.4 watts, and is quick to regulate. The storage system is suitable for anyone who wants to bundle a high energy density in a small space in a single or dual family home. As Clements explains: “As a result, anyone can become their own energy provider in their home. And at an attractive starting price, without having to compromise on quality, safety and reliability.”

Energy storage systems can now be connected for different products
Now, VARTA energy storage systems can be cascaded across different products. For example, VARTA one owners can connect their storage system with a VARTA pulse or VARTA element. All combinations are possible – with the additional VARTA Link hardware. With the VARTA pulse neo, this hardware is no longer needed. In this case, the VARTA Link is not necessary, and the VARTA pulse neo takes over the control of the downstream storage systems, acting as the “master”.

VARTA element update
Another new feature being presented at the stand is the VARTA element energy storage system update. The energy storage systems can now directly communicate with inverters, visualise the data, and automatically set a limit if needed (active power limitation).

Energy community in the cloud
An energy community makes it possible to make the best use of your own energy storage system, and to use as much green solar power from the roof as possible. Since the autumn of 2018, VARTA has been cooperating with the north German energy company EWE, for example. In the “myEnergyCloud” power community, private solar power system owners can save the power they have generated themselves like a credit, and access it at a low cost at any time. Your photovoltaic system and the energy storage system from VARTA Power & Energy therefore make you independent of the electricity market. Digital electricity meters and your own app make it easy and convenient to use the cloud. Also at the VARTA stand at the ees Europe: the “SolarCloud” solution from innogy.

VARTA flex commercial storage systems
“Large, yet flexible” is also becoming an increasingly important feature when it comes to energy storage systems. The AC-coupled VARTA flex storage energy storage system is suitable for plants with a nominal system capacity of between 36 kW and 600 kW, and a useful capacity of between 52 kWh and 750 kWh. As a result, VARTA large-scale storage systems can be used in a variety of different ways: to increase own consumption, for peak shaving and tenant power solutions, as well as emergency power supplies.

“Thanks to the modular structure of the VARTA flex storage product series, we can respond flexibly to all customer needs. This enables us to provide tailor-made solutions for industry, the commercial sector and agriculture,” explains Reiko Stutz, General Manager Commercial Storage Solutions, at VARTA Power & Energy. One current, well-known example is the farm owned by Olympic horseriding gold medallist, Ludger Beerbaum. There, the rudimentary electrical infrastructure was transformed into an area network. The photovoltaic system, which has now been optimally integrated, and the VARTA large-scale storage system achieve high own consumption results.
