Upgrading is worth it: monitoring photovoltaic plants on a single platform

Augsburg, December 11, 2014 – meteocontrol GmbH, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, offers plant owners and operators a complete and efficient package for upgrading photovoltaic (PV) plant monitoring systems. The comprehensive high-performance system streamlines professional operational management, allowing operators to meet the latest market- and grid-integration requirements with one tool. Showcasing this, meteocontrol is now providing an end-to-end planning, installation and commissioning service for three solar parks with a total output of around 9 MWp. The customer, SoMoAktiv GmbH of Glött, Germany, is responsible for technical operations of the solar parks in question.*

To date, meteocontrol has installed the remote monitoring system for the WEB’log data logger series in conjunction with the safer’Sun Professional monitoring system predominantly in new plants. However, the complex requirements of grid operators and the need for a remote control capability for direct marketing increasingly demand updates also for existing plants. A standardized, internet-based monitoring system also allows for plants to be monitored easily, reliably, and cost-effectively.

SoMoAktiv GmbH has enlisted meteocontrol to upgrade the solar parks in Rettenbach-Harthausen (4.5 MWp), Bachhagel (1.8 MWp) and Kleinlangheim (2.3 MWp) as well as further open field parks and large rooftop systems. meteocontrol and SoMoAktiv will take care of planning and coordination with the grid operator, and also install and commission the system. WEB’log Pro unlimited data loggers and meteocontrol’s irradiance measuring technology will be used in the plants. Existing structures will be taken into account during the planning discussions with the operator and integrated into the overall system as far as possible.

“meteocontrol’s complete package offers a cost-effective and professional solution for upgrading the solar parks,” says Florian Strehle, Managing Director of SoMoAktiv GmbH. “We’ve been impressed by the in-depth, expert advice provided and the fact that all work to date has been carried out very quickly and professionally.” Strehle intends to use meteocontrol’s products to ensure optimum technical operation management of his customers’ solar parks and also plans to equip further plants with the safer’Sun system in the future. With its comprehensive analysis and alarm functions, this monitoring system is a reliable tool allowing operators to secure yields in the long term. meteocontrol itself uses the system to monitor about 35,000 PV systems worldwide with a total output of approximately 9.2 GWp.
