More than 150 fire service professionals, risk prevention specialists and representatives of companies and organisations linked to the sector will come together over three days in the Port of Bilbao to share their knowledge, exchange experiences, test new equipment and perfect working methods in the field of occupational health, safety and risk prevention.

The event, of an internal nature, has been jointly organised by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the Port Authority of Bilbao and the Association for Occupational Risk Prevention in Firefighting Services.

From today until next Thursday, the Port of Bilbao will be the venue for the V Congress on Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Prevention in Firefighting Services. Over the next three days, this reference event for professionals in the field of safety and risk prevention in firefighting will bring together more than 150 people from all over Spain.

The main objective of the event, jointly organised by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the Port Authority of Bilbao and the Association for Occupational Risk Prevention in Firefighting Services, is to promote a culture of safety and risk prevention in firefighting operations, showcasing new methodologies and techniques to improve safety conditions for firefighters at work. This fifth edition has exceeded all expectations, to the point that registration has had to be closed in advance after full capacity was reached.

During the congress, various presentations will be given and practical workshops held on key issues such as operations with hazardous goods, the safe design of hydraulic equipment, safety when working at heights and on ladders, operations at the wildland-urban interface and the digitisation of services. Issues related to psychosocial risks in the profession and psychological support for those involved will also be discussed.

The workshops will be held on a rotational basis to enable participants to attend multiple sessions. In addition, a round table will be held with experts from OSALAN, the Basque Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, and the Labour Inspectorate, focusing on the contaminants present in firefighting operations.

The congress will also feature representatives from leading companies in the emergency management sector, who will present their technological innovations for improving safety during complex operations.
