Solar is the fastest growing energy source worldwide, and will deliver the lion’s share of the global renewable energy target to triple total installed capacity to 11 TW by 2030. The international energy transition will be made possible by resilient supply chains. In this context, SolarPower Europe and the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) are joining efforts to bolster and promote more globally diverse solar value chains.
Europe and India have long been leaders in the energy transition. SolarPower Europe and NSEFI’s renewed collaboration is dedicated to supporting our markets’ respective efforts to reshore solar manufacturing. In the EU, this comes against the background of the Net- Zero Industry Act (NZIA), which is driving demand for European solar products. In India, the country has launched the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which aims to
enhance domestic manufacturing of solar modules, inverters, and other essential components.
India is one of the largest and most dynamic solar markets worldwide, with a strong presence of European companies in the country. The two regions have much to offer each other. While European solar manufacturers (including inverters, racking systems, mounting structures, etc.) can offer significant support, including on-site assistance, highyield performance, and reliable customer assistance, India excels at creating its own domestic manufacturing market.
Our increased co-operation reflects the commitments of the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership (CECP), which is designed to enhance collaboration between the EU and India on clean energy, clean-tech supply chains, and climate change. These efforts come as President Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently pledged to deepen the India-EU collaboration, especially on clean energy, supply chains, green industrial transition.
Building on the successful partnership we began in 2019, this initiative will deliver on our commitment to build more robust, diversified, and resilient global solar supply chains. The partnership will work to:
- Identify concrete opportunities for manufacturing projects.
- Identify business and financing opportunities for manufacturing projects.
- Foster knowledge exchange and capacity building to help both regions remain at the
forefront of the clean energy transition. - Address regulatory issues concerning the market access of solar equipment.
The renewed partnership follows the launch of SolarPower Europe’s International Solar Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI). ISMI acts as a vehicle to create joint opportunities and cooperation between European manufacturers (especially solar equipment providers) and solar manufacturers in EU partner countries, like India.
About SolarPower Europe
