Renewable Resources Contributes to Renewable Energy Growth in the UK

Responsible for 38 per cent of total installed solar capacity for last reported quarter

Milton Keynes, 25 October, 2012 – According to the latest Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) statistics, Renewable Resources (Energy Solutions) Ltd accounted for 38 per cent of the total commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity in the UK between May and July 2012. This achievement reinforces the company’s position as the largest UK solar PV installer, and follows the company’s recent win of the Solar UK 2012 Award in the category Large Installation of the Year. The award-winning 6.9 MW project for the supermarket chain Sainsbury’s was completed by Renewable Resources in March 2012 in South England. Renewable Resources is committed to bringing best-quality solar energy solutions to its customers to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and electricity bills, and protect from future increases in energy costs.

Quarterly feed-in tariff (FiT) statistics published by the DECC in August revealed that in May, June and July 2012, a total of 13.94 MW of solar PV installations was completed in the large commercial tariff band (50 kW – 5 MW)[1]. Renewable Resources installed 5.23 MW or 38 per cent of the total capacity in this category. In August 2012 the company completed an additional 2.77 MW in the large commercial-scale banding, totalling 8 MW in the four-month period.

The official installation figures are monitored in domestic scale (0-10 kW), small commercial (10-50 kW), and large commercial projects (50 kW – 5 MW). The installation levels in each of these sectors are used by the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) to determine the FiT rates for the three months starting 1 November 2012. Since large commercial installations for the last reported quarter are less than the stipulated 50 MW digression point, the FiT rates will remain the same until at least until 1 February 2013.

“We are excited to see the latest DECC FiT statistics – a proof of the UK’s receptiveness to the benefits of solar which we have also experienced,” said Paul Gribben, Chief Executive, Renewable Resources. “We are proud to be on the forefront of the UK renewable energy sector and to contribute to the growth of the UK market while significantly reducing its negative environmental impact.”

Renewable Resources works with a vast range of commercial customers, from local authorities and community centres to large retail chains. In the beginning of 2012, Sainsbury’s partnered with Renewable Resources to install 36,662 roof-mounted solar PV panels on 115 stores across the South of England. The energy generated is enough to power 2,000 homes or offset an average of 3,100 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum. Renewable Resources has also successfully completed solar PV installations for the Scottish Prison Service, Tayside Police, Strathclyde Fire Rescue, Renfrewshire Council, Banff & Buchan College, Lanark Church Hall, Millport Primary School and Western Infirmary Edinburgh.

“With the introduction of the new Feed-in Tariff rates as well as the constantly falling price of solar PV technologies and installations, commercial solar PV continues to offer a strong return on investment to those seeking energy autonomy and cost-efficiency,” said Gribben.
