As storage moves center stage of energy portfolios, unified control and monitoring become a top priority for power providers in order to manage complex fleets and limit operational risks. Opoura’s latest BESS upgrade in its OneView® software reflects this shift, with orders already secured from major European energy players.
SILKEBORG, DENMARK – Wednesday, March 11, 2026 – Opoura, a Denmark-based leader in energy and asset management software, has made another strategic investment in its OneView® platform. With the latest expansion, Opoura now supports full monitoring and control of BESS as part of their centralized Portfolio SCADA system – enabling wind, solar, hydropower, and storage assets to be managed side by side.
Unified energy management is a key piece in the complex puzzle of the energy transition. As renewable portfolios mature, the challenge is no longer limited to producing green power. Increasingly, operators must balance generation, storage, and grid requirements altogether. In many markets, solar plants are now being designed with BESS installations from the outset or upgraded gradually, and stand-alone solar projects are starting to become the exception rather than the rule.
This shift places new demands on energy management software. Customers are looking for unified platforms that can handle both generation and storage without adding operational complexity. Thomas Bagger, CEO at Opoura, explains:
“We are seeing a clear change in customer requests. We are moving from mixed-asset portfolios to full-scale hybridization. And when you add storage to the mix, timing becomes just as important as capacity. If storage is treated as a separate system, you lose transparency and increase risk. Integrating BESS directly into the Portfolio SCADA system allows our customers to act on the full picture, using the same data models, analytics, and operational workflows across all their assets, regardless of technology.”
Large-scale BESS orders already secured
Opoura is already engaged in several large-scale BESS projects, including an order from a long-term customer in Poland to integrate one of the largest BESS in Europe into their Portfolio SCADA system. The specific project brings large-scale energy storage of almost 1000 MWh into the same control environment as the customer’s existing renewable assets, creating a unified operational setup across technologies.
By integrating BESS directly into the OneView® platform, the customer gains a consistent overview of production, storage, and grid interaction in real time. This supports better operational decisions, smoother dispatch, and a stronger foundation for optimizing hybrid portfolios as market conditions and grid requirements evolve.
At Opoura, Thomas Bagger welcomes the growing number of BESS projects:
“We’re pleased to be part of several large-scale storage projects already and grateful for the trust our customers place in us. These projects show how quickly storage is becoming part of everyday operations and commercial strategies.”
BESS unlocks energy arbitrage but demands smarter operations
Battery storage is on everybody’s agenda because it not only enables better balancing and grid stability. For many operators, BESS is becoming the gateway to energy arbitrage – storing power when prices are low and dispatching it when market conditions are more favorable. This shift adds a commercial dimension to operations.
But BESS integration also raises new requirements for data quality, control, and cross-system coordination. And according to Thomas Bagger, especially the coordination can quickly turn into the primary hurdle for control center operators:
“Power producers need to take advantage of the clear benefits BESS brings to the table, but they also need to prepare for the added exponential growth of complexity. Adding a co-located BESS plant doesn’t mean just one more system – it means many new interfaces, data streams, and alarms. The dozens of screens operators already manage can quickly double. And that’s why a unified platform that connects generation, storage, and market data in a single operational view can impact performance much more than what we have seen in the past,” says Thomas Bagger, and adds:
“However, we are seeing a shift, where customers are starting to treat SCADA as a strategic investment, and not just a technical deliverable. In my view, that perspective will be key to navigating the future of energy and asset management.”
