Combining physics-informed AI with sector's deepest reliability and operational data lake – including 50,000+ failure events and 140,000+ turbine-years of operating history
ONYX Cortex can cut false positive alarms by up to 95% and unplanned downtime by up to 70%, maximising asset performance
Launching at WindEnergy Hamburg, ONYX Cortex unifies monitoring, intelligence, and maintenance workflows into a single platform
21 September 2026, Nottingham, UK – ONYX Insight, the leading provider of predictive analytics for the global wind industry, has announced the launch of ONYX Cortex, a new platform combining physics-informed AI with real-world data to substantially improve turbine availability, reduce downtime, and maximise asset performance. The platform debuts at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026.
By connecting condition monitoring, performance analytics, and maintenance workflows in a single environment, ONYX Cortex turns every alarm into a revenue-optimised decision, connecting asset health with commercial outcomes.
The launch comes as ageing fleets, rising maintenance costs, and pressure to maximise output have made it increasingly important to connect condition, performance, and commercial decision-making.
Interoperability is central to how ONYX Cortex works. The platform draws together data from SCADA and condition monitoring systems (CMS) – whether ONYX's own or third-party – giving decision-makers a complete view of a turbine's condition and revenue potential. Operators can then work with that intelligence through the web platform, mobile app, MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, or CMMS. Cortex's API capabilities enable seamless integration with customers' existing EAM and ERP systems, bringing predictive insights directly into their operational workflows.
The platform builds on fleetMONITORTM, ONYX Insight's existing condition monitoring platform, proven across more than 32,000 turbines worldwide, extending that expertise into a single, whole-turbine view that cuts the steps between an alarm and a decision.
Cortex will be the first platform to centralise monitoring across the entire turbine, including drivetrain, blades, blade roots, tower, and foundation, giving operators a unified picture of turbine health. It also supports the industry's shift towards self-perform and hybrid operations, giving in-house teams consistent data across mixed fleets, bridging the gap between engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
Physics-informed AI sets ONYX Cortex apart. Rather than relying solely on statistical models, the platform is built on engineering models informed by more than 15 years of operational data drawn from what ONYX Insight believes is the industry's deepest reliability data lake: over 50,000 documented failure events, 140,000+ turbine-years of operating history, and data spanning 180+ platforms across 25+ OEMs. This lets the AI identify developing issues and generate clear recommendations, reducing false positive alarms by up to 95%.
Early modelling points to ONYX Cortex's commercial impact. Its OPTIMISE capability weighs remaining useful life against revenue, OPEX, parts, people, and equipment availability. For turbines with known issues that would otherwise be conservatively de-rated or taken offline, OPTIMISE can recover between 2% and 20% of that turbine's revenue potential by timing output to high-value market periods, without raising the risk of catastrophic failure or limiting its ability to respond to grid flexibility demand.
ONYX Insight's technology is already trusted by eight of the world's ten largest wind operators outside China. Its MANAGE capability has been shown to increase operation traceability, field reporting efficiency, and reduce unplanned downtime by up to 70%, delivering savings of over $38m for a leading operator over four years.
Alexis Grenon, CEO, ONYX Insight, said: “The economics of wind energy are increasingly determined by operational performance. Every hour of downtime, every unnecessary intervention and every missed opportunity to extend asset life has a measurable, often substantial, commercial impact. Turning that into revenue means aligning teams and data so operators have trustworthy intelligence they can act on with confidence. ONYX Cortex has been built to do exactly that: physics-informed AI, grounded in real-world data at an unprecedented scale, connecting condition, performance and workflow so every alarm becomes a revenue-optimised decision. Our objective is straightforward: give owners and operators clearer insight, greater confidence, and better outcomes across the entire operating lifecycle.”
ONYX Cortex will be showcased for the first time at WindEnergy Hamburg, where ONYX Insight will demonstrate how the platform helps owners and operators simplify operations, improve reliability, and optimise performance across wind portfolios worldwide.
