Natural Power supports Alpiq in major battery storage acquisition in France

NaturalPower, the global renewable energy consultancy, has acted as technical advisorin support of Alpiq’s recent acquisition of the 100 MW/200 MWh Cheviré batteryenergy storage system (BESS) in western France – currently the largestoperational battery storage facility in the country.
NaturalPower was engaged by the Swiss energy company Alpiq to provide full technicaldue diligence throughout the acquisition process, drawing on its deep expertisein battery storage systems, technology evaluation, contractual risk analysis,and operational readiness. The consultancy’s review encompassed keydeliverables across engineering, grid connection, asset performance, andtechnical risks to support Alpiq’s investment decision.

NaturalPower’s contribution ensured that Alpiq had a robust and comprehensiveunderstanding of the technical baseline, potential operational and performanceconsiderations, and future optimisation pathways for the Cheviré BESS as ittransitions into its new ownership.

TheCheviré BESS, located at the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire, was inaugurated inDecember 2025 and has the capability to provide ancillary grid services orsupply electricity for two hours – a significant contribution to gridflexibility and renewable integration.
