Nadara, a leading NextGen Independent Power Producer (IPP+), is expanding its use of ZX wind Lidar technology as it progresses the repowering of wind farms across the UK, with ZX Measurement Services providing additional Lidars and field support for measurement campaigns.
The latest work builds on Nadara's existing investment in ZX 300e wind Lidars to support its UK repowering programme. Alongside its owned fleet, Nadara is utilising additional Lidars and field services to support wind measurement activities across a number of sites.
ZX Measurement Services has recently deployed a ZX 300e at a wind farm in Cumbria, England. A further deployment is being prepared to support the proposed repowering of Beinn Ghlas Wind Farm in Argyll and Bute, with the most suitable measurement location currently being assessed. In addition to supplying the Lidars, ZX Measurement Services is providing the field expertise required to establish and manage each measurement campaign, from deployment through to ongoing operational support.
Repowering projects require wind measurements at heights that were not considered when existing wind farms were originally developed. Wind Lidar offers a flexible approach to collecting this data, providing measurements across the full rotor area of modern turbines without the need for tall meteorological masts. Campaigns can be deployed quickly, have a low visual impact on the surrounding environment and, because no planning permission is required for the measurement equipment itself, developers can begin gathering site-specific wind measurements much sooner than would typically be possible with traditional mast-based approaches.
