MultiSec, working in partnership with Durham Lifting, has successfully designed and manufactured one of the largest C-Hooks ever produced. Developed for SeAH Wind, the bespoke solution is engineered to handle some of the most demanding offshore wind monopile sections being fabricated worldwide.
The C-Hook has a lifting capacity of 125 tonnes and is capable of handling monopile sections measuring up to 4.2 metres in length and 15.5 metres in diameter. This makes it one of the most advanced heavy-lifting tools of its kind, providing SeAH Wind with a versatile, reliable solution for the handling of monopile cans and cones.
Advanced Engineering for Offshore Applications
Traditional C-Hooks are limited to single-direction tilt adjustment. Multisec’s design introduces a significant advance: a dual gantry crane system with integrated motorised counterweights that can travel to either side of the lifting point. This enables controlled rotation in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions, ensuring safe handling across monopile sections of varying dimensions and centres of gravity.
To enhance durability, the mechanical load path has been specifically designed so that primary forces are not transferred through welds, delivering improved performance in heavy-duty applications.

The launch of the C-Hook underscores Teesside’s continuing importance as a hub for advanced engineering and manufacturing. Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke visited the Durham Lifting and Multisec facility to view the hook and emphasised the region’s contribution to renewable energy supply chains.
