Mott MacDonald celebrates financial close of Project Bright, UK

Mott MacDonald’s role as lenders’ technical advisor for one of the world’s largest solar photovoltaic rooftop projects has reached a key milestone with the announcement that the project, known as Bright, has achieved financial close.

Eaga, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of heating and renewable energy installations has developed and will construct a portfolio of up to 38,000 solar PV rooftop units across the south of the UK totalling up to 100MW peak. Installations will be fitted on social housing properties and will allow the tenants to benefit from the electricity produced thereby reducing their electricity bills and contributing to sustainable power generation in the UK. Power which is not used by the tenants will be exported to the grid reducing the UK’s reliance on carbon intensive electricity generation.

Mott MacDonald’s team of renewables specialists analysed the project’s technical, environmental and commercial aspects and assisted in implementing measures to mitigate risks. The consultancy provided technical advice for key project and financing agreements and will continue to provide construction and operation monitoring services following financial close.

Mott MacDonald’s project director John Porter said, “We are delighted to have been the technical advisor for one of the most important solar projects in the UK. Solar photovoltaic is a key technology for combating climate change. Mott MacDonald has a wealth of experience in delivering large scale solar PV installation projects globally and we look forward to continuing our role in the project.”

The project is due for completion by the middle of 2012.
