Meyer Burger offers efficient sapphire solutions for the rapidly growing mobile cover and touchscreen industry

Based on new, high-performance sapphire technology, Meyer Burger provides efficient solutions for the industrial production of sapphire covers and touchscreens for the growing, high-volume mobile market. Industry-leading companies have expressed significant interest in Meyer Burger‘s equipment.

Integrated solutions for the sapphire industry
Meyer Burger Technology Ltd (SIX Swiss Exchange: MBTN) develops and produces integrated system solutions for processing sapphire wafers. These wafers are used in the production of high-efficiency LEDs as well as in the watchmaking industry and now also in the – mobile cover and touchscreen industry. In close cooperation with leading manufacturers of crystallisation furnaces for the production of sapphire boules using the Kyropulos or heat exchanger method (such as with ASF), Meyer Burger has developed a technology that processes sapphire boules into bricks on the basis of diamond wire in a single system. Usage of diamond wire provides a significant improvement in output compared to existing solutions, including equipment throughput, cycle times and cost. The processing of the sapphire boules into bricks on the BrickMaster system enables industrial production, thereby providing a true alternative to the prevailing serial production methods. The BrickMaster system makes a sizeable contribution to reducing production costs of sapphire covers and touchscreens with the combination of coordinated processes for the pre- and post-processing of sapphires as well as with innovative measurement and control techniques used during sapphire processing. The newly developed system for sapphires is based on the proven BrickMaster system used in the photovoltaic industry to cut multi-crystalline silicon blocks into bricks.

Market leaders showing strong interest in equipment from Meyer Burger
Leading suppliers of touchscreens for the mobile industry have expressed strong interest in Meyer Burger’s new production process and equipment. A change in material from glass to sapphire for touchscreen production is under serious consideration. Such a change offers clear benefits such as industrial production while also meeting the critical demand for high-quality, stronger and scratch resistant touchscreens with a long life-cycle.
