Grünwald, 20 March 2025 – The renewable energy fund KGAL ESPF 4 has connected the ‘San Fernando’ solar park with a capacity of 47 MWp to the power grid in the province of Cádiz, southern Spain. With more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, the region has the highest level of solar radiation in Spain. What makes this solar park so special is that it is a pure greenfield project that KGAL and its partner Premier Group have been driving forward from the outset of the project.
KGAL, the Premier Group and its service provider ELMYA implemented the project development step by step, from securing the land to the feasibility study, environmental permits, building applications and construction through to completion. The added value of the investment is correspondingly high – despite challenges in planning and construction. “With projects of this size, you always face difficult tasks at some point,” explains Fabio Garcia, Transaction Manager at KGAL. “In the case of ‘San Fernando’, for example, we had to lay a connecting cable several kilometers long underground to the transformer station and tunnel under a train line and a motorway, among other things.”
All the hurdles have now been overcome and the solar park, with its 47 megawatts of capacity, is feeding electricity into the Spanish grid at currently attractive market prices. The calculated output is enough to supply around 35,000 people with green electricity.
The ‘San Fernando’ solar park will be supplemented by a wind farm, which is currently under development. Both parks can share the infrastructure, which leads to synergies.
In addition, KGAL and ELMYA are currently building two further solar parks in Córdoba, Spain, each with an output of 45 MWp.
