JA Solar Expands European Energy Storage Footprint with Multiple JAPlanet Deployments in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands
Published in: Solar, Press Releases
6 May 2026 – JA Solar, a global leader in photovoltaic (PV) products and integrated energy solutions, today announces the first wave of deployments of its JAPlanet battery energy storage system in Europe, marking a significant milestone in the company’s solar-plus-storage strategy for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.
Since its introduction at the end of 2025, JAPlanet has seen strong early uptake, with multiple systems already installed across Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, alongside a confirmed pipeline of additional projects in other key C&I markets.
Designed for medium- to large-scale C&I installations, JAPlanet is a 261 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system with a compact, modular design and is scalable up to 5.2 MWh per site. It forms part of a fully integrated solar-plus-storage offering, developed to meet growing demand from businesses and municipalities seeking to increase solar self-consumption and enhance the value of installed PV assets through energy trading.
Alastair Mounsey, Vice President Europe at JA Solar, comments: “The response to JAPlanet has been extremely positive, with rapid adoption across several key European markets and a growing pipeline of projects throughout the region. This reflects a clear shift in how C&I customers are approaching energy, as they move towards greater self-consumption, cost control and resilience. Increasingly, solar needs to be paired with storage to unlock its full value, particularly as businesses respond to rising energy prices, grid constraints and more dynamic energy markets. The strong early demand we are seeing underlines the growing importance of integrated PV and storage solutions as a core part of Europe’s energy transition.”
First commercial and municipal systems live in Italy
In Italy, JA Solar has partnered with installation specialist Noon srl to deliver a series of large-scale commercial installations in Sicily. These include ten JAPlanet units deployed at an aquaculture facility, eight units at a 200-bedroom hotel and resort in Palermo, and a further ten units at the municipality of Licodia Eubea in Catania. The latter project provides a 2 MW PV-coupled battery system supporting energy trading and arbitrage at a municipal level.
These projects also include some of the first examples of JA Solar’s “PV + Storage + X” model, which combines solar generation and battery storage with specific industry applications (“X”) to deliver tailored, sustainable energy solutions. In these deployments, the battery is managed by a locally developed energy management system, which supports peak load management and operational stability while maximising renewable energy use. As a result, around 70% of on-site solar generation is consumed directly.
Giuseppe Puleo, CEO at Noon srl, comments: “Across Italy, demand for high-power energy storage is accelerating as businesses respond to rising energy costs and sustainability targets. JAPlanet allows us to meet this demand directly, offering a scalable solution with advanced energy management capabilities that enables our customers to fully optimise the value of their on-site energy generation."
Supporting installers in Germany
In Germany, JAPlanet is gaining traction across a variety of C&I sectors, supported by distribution partner SegenSolar Germany. Among the early deployments is a mixed agricultural operation in Straelen, which combines dairy farming with feed production and vegetable cultivation.
Holger Grau, Technical Sales Manager at SegenSolar Germany, comments: “JAPlanet’s high power capacity and modular, scalable design give us flexibility to support our installer network across a wide range of commercial projects and end-customer requirements. For this project, it offered the right balance of performance, cost-effectiveness and warranty coverage. The system is helping the business to reduce electricity costs through increased self-consumption, while also opening up marketing opportunities around their use of green power.”
Adapting to market needs in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, JA Solar is partnering with wholesaler GWS Energy-systems B.V. (GWS Energy), based in Wierden, to distribute multiple battery systems across a range of commercial and industrial segments, including logistics, agriculture, retail, real estate and EV charging hubs.
Roland Hollegien, Co-Owner of GWS, comments: “As a wholesaler, our role is to ensure installers have access to storage solutions that genuinely meet the needs of their C&I customers. In the Netherlands, demand is being driven by challenges such as grid congestion, rising energy prices and the need for greater energy independence, and JAPlanet performs strongly in this context.
“What makes it particularly valuable is the combination of high safety standards, long lifecycle performance and strong system efficiency, together with a modular plug-and-play design that simplifies installation and reduces commissioning time. For our installer partners, this translates into lower project complexity, reduced service requirements and faster delivery to end customers. For end users, it supports practical applications such as peak shaving, load shifting and improved PV integration, helping them to maximise self-consumption and reduce reliance on the grid.”
