Strategic leadership transition positions IDEEMATEC for continued growth as a leading international solar tracker provider in a rapidly expanding market
Wallerfing, June 1, 2026 - IDEEMATEC, a leading global provider of high-performance solar tracker technologies, announces today that Mario Eckl, CEO, shareholder and co-founder of the company, will transition from operational duties to the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Bischof-Niemz, former member of the Management Board at ENERTRAG SE, will take over as CEO effective June 1, 2026. He brings two decades of experience across the global renewable energy sector.
As the only German company, IDEEMATEC has consistently ranked among the worldwide top 10 solar tracker suppliers for several years. Mario Eckl has been instrumental in the company’s growth and development, transforming it from a one-product company into a one-stop-solution solar tracker provider. Under his leadership, IDEEMATEC surpassed the 10 GW of installed trackers milestone – with nearly 5 GW commissioned in the last three years alone. After successfully supplying its 2P trackers for an 800 MW flagship project in the Middle East in 2021, IDEEMATEC rolled out its L:TEC® 1P tracker which now already forms the backbone of a new 1 GW anchor project in the Gulf region. The company has also established itself as a pioneer and market leader in the Agri-PV segment, including winning Europe's largest Agri-PV contract. Today, the L:TEC® Family encompassing the three distinct trackers 1P, 2P and Agri-PV, all built on the same platform, can be found in projects across more than 30 countries and the IDEEMATEC presence is now spanning the globe with subsidiaries across five continents.
At the same time, increasing demand for resilient supply chains, local execution capabilities and high-performance infrastructure is reshaping the global solar market. With German engineering expertise combined with strong local value creation and execution in its key markets, IDEEMATEC is well positioned for this next phase of international growth.
Mario Eckl, co-founder and shareholder of IDEEMATEC, emphasizes: "This is not a goodbye, but a new chapter – for me and for IDEEMATEC. Together with an incredible team, we have built this company through a demanding market environment, with full focus on the product and on being the partner of choice our customers can rely on. I am proud of what we have achieved so far, and I am confident that Tobias is the perfect choice to lead the company through its next stage of growth. His systems-based view of the energy market, his international track record, and his vision for where IDEEMATEC can go – that is exactly what this next phase calls for. Together, we want to further scale IDEEMATEC across the world and strengthen its position as a leading player in the global solar industry."
Eckl hands over at a moment of deliberate choice: With all business segments on track and the company growing exponentially, IDEEMATEC is driven by new ambitions. The leadership transition reflects a shared ambition to further scale the company worldwide and build on the robust foundation established over recent years.
Dr. Bischof-Niemz is equally enthusiastic about joining: "What drew me to IDEEMATEC is a combination that rarely exists in one place: a technology with genuine relevance for the future energy system, a team with real global depth, and a moment in the energy transition where integration matters as much as scale. The solar field is becoming the new power plant, and the tracker is one of its defining components. Trackers are a decisive factor in determining energy yield and value, plant reliability, bankability, and ultimately whether a project succeeds. IDEEMATEC has built exactly the right platform for the opportunities ahead. Mario and I are fully aligned on where this company is headed, and I look forward to building on what he and the team have created. IDEEMATEC is entering this next phase from a position of true strength, with outstanding technology, powerful market momentum and significant worldwide growth potential.”
Dr. Bischof-Niemz studied engineering and energy regulation in Darmstadt, Berkeley and New York and subsequently started his career at the Boston Consulting Group, where he spent several years before moving to South Africa. There, he played a key role in developing Eskom’s long-term capacity expansion plan for the South African electricity sector and was responsible for integrating the first gigawatts of wind and solar power into the grid. He then built and led the Energy Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Since returning to Germany in 2017, he has been part of the leadership team at German renewable developer and independent power producer ENERTRAG SE, most recently serving as Member of the Management Board responsible for international business, engineering, energy systems and market integration, and project execution—actively driving the planning and implementation of fully renewable energy systems.
