International renewable energy development platform ib vogt has officially hosted the inauguration of the Segovia Cluster in the Segovia region of Spain. The cluster comprises four utility-scale photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of 513.1 MWp, underscoring ib vogt’s commitment to delivering clean, reliable, and scalable energy solutions across Europe. Offtakers including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Corning Incorporated, Equinix, and others, all of which have signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), attended alongside the regional government of Castilla y León, three mayors of nearby localities, and a subdelegation from the government of Segovia.
The Segovia Cluster is comprised of four utility-scale solar plants, each backed by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with leading global companies: the Serbal solar plant (174 MWp), the Castaño solar plant (134 MWp), the Pato solar plant (110 MWp), and the Baobab solar plant (95.1 MWp). These agreements play a critical role in accelerating Spain’s clean energy transition by securing stable, long-term energy supply from solar power. PPAs support sustainability goals that positively impact local municipalities by reducing carbon emissions, contributing to grid resilience, and providing cost predictability for businesses and communities alike.
Spanning 666.5 hectares and equipped with 887,409 solar panels, the four Segovia Cluster projects generate approximately 1,036.6 GWh of clean electricity annually—enough to power around 300,000 households—while preventing more than 480,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Beyond their environmental impact, the projects have delivered strong local economic benefits. ib vogt engaged workers from over 19 different companies during construction, and the cluster has already contributed approximately €6 million in tax revenue, with an estimated additional €1.3 million in yearly tax revenue to the surrounding municipalities over its 25-year operational life.
The Segovia Cluster has further delivered meaningful environmental benefits alongside clean energy generation, and a total of €1.3 million was allocated toward these measures during the construction process. During construction, ib vogt implemented measures such as flora and fauna monitoring, noise assessments, archaeological oversight, and topsoil management, while minimizing impact through waterproofed surfaces. The projects also included habitat enhancements—native plant fencing, nest boxes, ponds, and GPS nest tracking, and the monitoring of fauna with cameras to show wildlife adaptation. Additionally, ib vogt incorporated elements of agrivoltaics into the projects with the presence of sheep grazing at all plants.
Further, in collaboration with the Natural Heritage Foundation of Castilla y León (JCyL), ib vogt is supporting local conservation projects, including the protection of the Dupont’s Lark, renovation of the Wildlife Recovery Center, restoration of the Ermita del Casuar for environmental education, and installation of forest fire surveillance cameras. An additional €1.3 million has been allocated for these future processes during the lifetime of the projects, which includes revegetation efforts, ongoing maintenance of environmental features, and regular environmental monitoring throughout the installation’s lifetime.
The inauguration ceremony brought together key stakeholders from across the energy sector, government representatives, and industry leaders. Speeches were delivered by Anton Milner, former CEO of ib vogt, and Andreas Schell, the company’s new CEO, who both emphasized the impact of the projects, the importance of sustainable development, long-term energy security, and collaborative innovation in driving the global energy transition.
Andreas Schell, CEO of ib vogt, said at the event: “The energy transition is far more than a strategic option—it is an ethical imperative. Spain stands before a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead Europe in transforming its energy systems toward cleaner, cheaper, and more resilient electrification.
This transition demands not only technology, but a shift in mindset: we must support battery deployment and properly compensate essential system services that have long been overlooked.
By doing so, Spain can become a beacon of sustainability and economic strength in Europe. With a highly capable team, a robust project pipeline, and—crucially—the support of national and EU policymakers, we are ready to deliver real, lasting change.
This is our moment to act—not just for today, but for future generations.”
“This is a pivotal moment in the way we power our world” said Anton Milner, former CEO of ib vogt, now supporting the company as a shareholder. “The Segovia Cluster is the largest project portfolio in ib vogt’s history, made possible through strong collaboration between public and private institutions. Real progress comes from confronting complex markets with practical, impactful solutions—but private companies can’t do this alone. The sector needs clear, agile solutions, space for emerging technologies, and faster administrative processes. Innovation isn’t choice—it’s the only way forward. Segovia demonstrates what’s achievable when we work together to decarbonize energy systems, rethink outdated models, and turn challenges into long-term opportunities for people, nature, and industry.”
In line with ib vogt’s values, the Segovia Cluster has been developed with a strong focus on delivering lasting environmental, economic, and social value to the local region. All four projects were tailored to meet the needs of large-scale, long-term PPA investors, and a major portion of the energy has since been acquired by international entities active in the European energy market.
