Husum/Bremerhaven, 29. Juni 2026 – Messe Husum & Congress, the organiser of HUSUM WIND, and the wind energy industry network WAB e.V. will be presenting a comprehensive insight into key wind farm and grid connection projects in the North Sea on 31 August, as part of an exceptional offshore excursion. The organisers are expecting around 500 national and international participants at Europe’s largest offshore field trip. The last time a comparable tour took place was over 15 years ago.
Offshore wind energy plays a key role in implementing the energy transition in Germany, achieving climate targets, and ensuring energy independence and security of supply. The contract recently awarded in Germany for the construction of a converter platform, with a contract value of 2.5 billion euros and creating 550 new jobs, underlines that offshore wind also makes a major contribution to value creation.
Offshore wind farms in the German North Sea and Baltic Sea have now exceeded the 10-gigawatt mark in terms of installed capacity. The German government has pledged to stick to its expansion targets. According to these, installed capacity is set to rise to 70 gigawatts by 2045.
HUSUM WIND, the trade fair based on the North Sea coast, is also championing the expansion of wind energy and, together with the industry network WAB e.V., is inviting visitors to take part in an offshore excursion. “Our route, which takes in various offshore projects by leading operators, demonstrates the sector’s capabilities first-hand on site,” says Pascal Hofer, project manager at HUSUM WIND. “At the same time, this excursion marks the first step towards the most long-established and, at the same time, highly innovative wind energy trade fair – HUSUM WIND 2027.”
“The tour will demonstrate that the further expansion of offshore wind energy in Germany must be implemented swiftly, ambitiously and consistently. Any delay is counterproductive – there remains an urgent need for action, particularly with regard to reforming the Offshore Wind Energy Act (WindSeeG) and, in connection with this, a swift resumption of tenders for new project areas,” explains WAB Managing Director Markus Nölke.
Insights from planning to operation – that’s what the tour offers
The tour sets off on 31 August at 7.00 am on the high-speed catamaran ‘Halunder Jet’, operated by FRS Helgoline in Hamburg. From there, the full-day trip follows a pre-planned route that illustrates the development of offshore wind energy over the past 15 years – from the first pilot project to today’s 15 MW wind turbines. Depending on weather conditions, the tour will visit up to 25 offshore wind farms and converter stations in total, where participants can experience offshore activities at close quarters. At selected projects, on-site experts will explain the technical background, current developments and the challenges facing the further expansion of offshore wind energy in Germany.
“The current bookings for the upcoming HUSUM WIND also demonstrate just how important this sector is for renewable energy,” says Hofer. “At this stage, 60 per cent of our hall spaces have already been booked, a third of which are exhibitors presenting products, services and technologies in the offshore sector.”
Information on participation and tickets
Check-in for the tour begins at 6.00 am at the Hamburg Landungsbrücken, Bridges 3/4. The tour departs from there at 7.00 am, and the return is scheduled for 7.00 pm. The number of stops may vary depending on weather conditions.
The ticket price is €349.00 (€319.00 for exhibitors, including VAT in both cases) and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as drinks. Places are limited. Further information on the route and ticket booking is available at www.husumwind.com/en/offshore-excursion.
About HUSUM WIND
From 14 to 17 September 2027, over 600 exhibitors will be presenting new products and cutting-edge onshore and offshore technologies for the renewable energy system of tomorrow in Husum. The trade fair, which has been renowned for its practical focus and targeted networking for over 35 years, expects more than 12,000 trade visitors. In addition to onshore and offshore technology, the focus will be on topics such as ‘green hydrogen’ and ‘AI, cyber security and digitalisation’. A comprehensive supporting programme featuring specialist conferences, forums, excursions, networking events and an integrated careers fair rounds off the exhibition’s offering. HUSUM WIND is an event organised by Messe Husum & Congress.
