Politicians send clear messages: Minister-President Günther wants to drive the energy transition forward with vigour and optimism / Partner country Denmark highlights the importance of supra-regional markets and cooperation with Germany / Around 600 exhibitors from 23 countries showcase cutting-edge technologies for the renewable energy system in six halls from 16 to 19 September
Husum | 16 September 2025 – HUSUM WIND 2025 opened today with prominent political participation and around 600 exhibitors. For four days, Husum will be the meeting place for the international wind industry. Guests from around 50 nations are expected. The focus is on new technologies for onshore and offshore wind power, green hydrogen, digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The partner country Denmark as well as numerous representatives of federal and state politics underline the importance of the trade fair as a showcase for the wind industry and a driver of the energy transition. International exhibitors include countries from the USA, Canada, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia. Meike Kern, Managing Director of Messe Husum & Congress, set out the ambition for this year’s HUSUM WIND: “What began in Husum in 1989 developed into the first international trade fair for wind energy, long before the term energy transition was even coined. Today, this trade fair is about not only meeting future demands, but staying ahead of them.”
Federal and state politicians show clear commitment to wind energy
Minister-President Daniel Günther opened the trade fair in the presence of the entire state government of Schleswig-Holstein as well as high-ranking representatives from federal politics, associations, the partner country Denmark and the national and international wind industry. “Together with Denmark, we aim to drive the energy transition forward in Europe and build a climate-friendly industry. With the implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive, the energy transition in Germany will be accelerated and simplified. This gives us a great opportunity to reach our expansion goals. With determination, pioneering spirit and a dose of optimism, we remain committed to making Schleswig-Holstein climate neutral by 2040,” said Günther in his opening speech. Tobias Goldschmidt, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature, followed up: "The energy transition in Schleswig-Holstein is the driving force and pioneer of Germany's transformation. Wind energy protects our climate, makes us independent of authoritarian regimes, and is a real location factor for the economy. What is needed now is a reliable and confident energy policy."
In his speech, Stefan Rouenhoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, emphasised the role of wind energy as a main pillar of the energy transition: “The Federal Government's stated goal is a secure and affordable energy system that enjoys broad support in our society and with which we can continue on the path to decarbonisation. Wind energy plays a central role in this. Renewable energies such as wind power, but also photovoltaics and biomass, have developed into a key pillar of our electricity supply. Now it is important to consistently integrate renewable energies into the overall system in order to increase their cost efficiency and ensure their grid serviceability.” At the opening, he represented the Federal Ministry as patron of this year’s HUSUM WIND.
Anette Galskjøt, Consul General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Hamburg, representing the official partner country, pointed out that wind energy “can become one of the core components of a well-thought-out, increasingly electrified energy system that supplies electricity cheaply and reliably for industry and households.” She is “firmly convinced that sustainability and competitiveness can and must go hand in hand in Europe. Germany is at the forefront of this path as a neighbour and close ally.” The German-Danish Chamber of Commerce also emphasised the importance of cross-border cooperation between the two markets. Andreas Wenzel, Managing Director of the AHK, underlined: “Denmark is a wind pioneer and close partner of Germany. Projects such as the energy island of Bornholm impressively show that Germany and Denmark are stronger together.”
Basis for a high-performance and secure energy system
Under the motto Leading Through Innovation, HUSUM WIND offers practical insights into the latest developments in the industry – from onshore and offshore technologies to storage, recycling and repowering, as well as green hydrogen, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. “In Husum, the wind industry demonstrates its capabilities and innovations. In doing so, it sends a clear signal to politics: we are the core industry of Germany’s energy supply. Without us, it will not work,” stated Bärbel Heidebroek, President of the German Wind Energy Association.
Cybersecurity of critical energy infrastructure was a key topic at the opening. A high-level panel of experts from business, research and associations discussed its importance in depth. Dr Dennis Rendschmidt, Managing Director of VDMA Power Systems, highlighted the role of wind turbines as part of critical infrastructure: “This is essential for the resilience of the energy system and for ensuring supply security. Expanding wind power also makes a strong contribution to domestic value creation and employment. It is therefore clear that wind turbines must be effectively protected against digital threats, and the NIS2 Directive must consistently close regulatory gaps.”
Meeting place for the “wind family”: From industry to community
The supporting programme makes HUSUM WIND unique. Yesterday’s opening with the exclusive Windmasters Dinner at the castle and today’s reception at the town hall set the tone. Over the coming days, six technical excursions invite participants to experience the energy transition on site – from the wind turbine test field to virtual power plants.
The wide-ranging programme, which explicitly addresses not only visitors and exhibitors but also the town’s residents, underlines the community spirit of the trade fair. Events such as the HUSUM WIND Run, the new and fully booked networking event Women in Wind or the Windwanderer Festival in the old town connect trade fair and city. With light art, concerts and urban performances, Husum creates a festival atmosphere that shows how closely the city and the wind industry have grown together over the past 35 years.
The WINDCareeer: Where companies advertise for skilled workers and young talent
With the WINDCareer, the job fair will once again take place in the NordseeCongressCentrum. More than 30 companies present entry opportunities, trainee programs and career paths. The target groups are pupils, students and career changers. Due to the strong response from exhibitors and young professionals, WINDCareer has been extended to two days (18 and 19 September).
