GRS strengthens its presence in Australia with an additional 125 MW Solar Project

  • Gransolar’s EPC contractor, in partnership with Vena Energy, has launched commercial operations of the solar farm in Queensland

Brisbane, April 17th.- GRS, the Gransolar Group’s solar EPC contractor, has announced a new milestone with the commercial operation of the first stage of solar it has built together with Vena Energy.  The 125 MW Amazon Solar Project – Wandoan, built by Gransolar Construction Australia with Vena Energy, is part of an ambitious 1 GW multistaged renewable energy development, in the Western Downs local government area, the Wandoan South Project.

Strategically located 400 km northwest of Brisbane in the prosperous Darling Downs region of Queensland, the Amazon Solar Project – Wandoan will make an important contribution to Queensland’s transition to renewable energy and deliver renewable energy to local communities.

GRS began construction of the Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan,  withVena Energy, in May 2022 and within just one year, by May 2023, the plant had already reached 99% mechanical and electrical completion. The Project was announced as operational in February 2024 and is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power more than 60,000 Australian homes each year.

Gransolar Group, with its excellence in design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance, has worked with Vena Energy  in the construction of this landmark project in which, in addition to the different GRS teams (engineering, construction and O&M), PV Hardware (PVH) has supplied and commissioned the Axone Duo solar trackers and controllers.

“The construction of this Project has supported over 200 jobs and hosted a diverse workforce from across the State, including the direct involvement of the local community, accounting for more than 30% of the total workforce during the initial phase of the construction program”, said Owen Sela, Head of Australia at Vena Energy. “The local services accounted for more than 15% of the Project’s awarded contracts. We hope to continue to engage closely with the local and regional community as we endeavour to expand on the Wandoan South Project in the near future”.

“We are extremely proud to have participated with Vena Energy in this Project, a new milestone in the green transition being undertaken in Australia, which is especially remarkable in Queensland”, says José Miguel Plaza, country manager of Gransolar in Australia. “With the commercial operation of the Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan, GRS has successfully commissioned 1 GWp across ten large projects in the country, with 900 MWp under operation, 1GW of projects under development and 900 MWp under construction that will be in operation in 2024. GRS is fully committed and actively contributing to support Australia’s Renewable Energy Target”.
