Pioneering clean energy company Grafmarine has announced a series of new appointments – growing its team by 50% – as it accelerates towards full commercial deployment amid growing demand from the maritime sector for scalable clean energy solutions.
Ian Pilkington has joined as Chief Supply Chain Officer, while Sam Mills and Joe Jaquest have been appointed as Graduate Engineers. Juan Camilo Perez Gallego has joined as a Graduate Intern. Together, they bring extensive industry and technical expertise, strengthening Grafmarine’s capabilities as it enters its next phase of commercial growth.
With more than 30 years of global manufacturing and supply chain leadership experience across the automotive, aerospace, industrial, energy, and medical sectors, Pilkington has a strong track record of improving operational performance, simplifying complex supply chains, and delivering scalable, sustainable outcomes.
Both Mills and Jaquest bring a strong blend of technical design expertise, analytical capability, and practical engineering creativity. Mills has experience in CAD, FEA simulation, CFD modelling, and embedded systems integration, alongside proven success in operations and process optimisation, while Jaquest has a detailed understanding of product lifecycles, circular manufacturing principles, and cradle-to-cradle design. Their skillsets align closely with Grafmarine’s commitment to sustainable, low-impact engineering and will support the continued development and optimisation of the NanoDeck™ system.
Gallego, who is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in International Business at Hogeschool Rotterdam (Rotterdam Business School), will spend his six-month internship researching market entry and positioning strategies to help define how NanoDeck™ can successfully compete in the market.
NanoDeck™ is the world’s most advanced modular photovoltaic (PV) energy platform engineered specifically for harsh marine environments. It harvests solar energy at sea and in ports and supplies renewable electricity to the vessel’s grid, powering essential systems such as navigation equipment, engine room machinery, accommodation and cargo operations.
Commenting on the new appointments, Nigel Marc Roberts, CEO at Grafmarine, said: “As we move from development into full commercialisation, building the right team is critical. Ian, Sam, Joe and Juan each bring highly relevant experience that strengthens our ability to scale responsibly, efficiently, and at pace. Their appointments reflect our commitment to combining deep engineering expertise with commercial discipline as we strive to deliver clean, cost-effective energy solutions to the maritime sector.”re well positioned to establish Grafmarine as a global leader in maritime clean energy.”
