- SolarEdge technology selected due to superior safety features and higher energy yields versus traditional solar systems
Weimar-Wenkbach, Germany – 20 October 2025 – SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SEDG), a global leader in smart energy technology, today announces the first demonstration of its new 300kW TerraMaxTM inverter in Germany – powering a new 1.4MW ground-mounted solar system at YKK Deutschland GmbH’s manufacturing plant in Weimar-Wenkbach.
YKK Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of closure and fastening systems, serving global brands including Hugo Boss, Adidas, and Puma. The new solar system at the company’s Weimar-Wenkbach facility is expected to supply a large part of the factory’s electricity needs – cutting the site’s annual energy bill and carbon emissions significantly. The installation is also designed to accommodate the future addition of on-site battery storage.
YKK Deutschland GmbH initially planned to install a traditional solar system at the Weimar-Wenkbach site. However, after a safety related incident at another facility with a conventional string inverter, YKK Deutschland GmbH reassessed its decision. Following consultations with local planning authorities, the company opted for SolarEdge’s new TerraMax inverter that leverages Power Optimizers to deliver advanced safety features and higher energy yields for ground-mounted PV systems.
Alexander Sann, Deputy Factory Manager at YKK Deutschland GmbH, explains: “The rollout of solar across our manufacturing sites is central to our strategy to operate more sustainably, reduce costs and increase energy independence. However, safety is non-negotiable – so we selected the SolarEdge system having been recommended for its advanced safety features, which gave us more peace of mind from the outset. But we quickly recognized the added value of having Power Optimizers – not only maximizing the energy yield of each solar panel, but also the remote monitoring capabilities to optimize performance of the system. These advantages are expected to bring a faster return on investment.”
Unlike a traditional string inverter, the TerraMax uses Power Optimizers – small devices attached to the underside of every pair of solar panels – to bring advanced safety capabilities to solar systems. For example, the SafeDC™ feature, designed to automatically power down the solar array to a touch-safe 1V upon inverter or grid shut down, enabling safe maintenance and emergency intervention should it be required. Key for businesses, the inverter offers multilayered protection from inverter to cloud, complying with global safety and cybersecurity standards to safeguard the system.
Alongside environmental benefits, the company is collaborating with the local community in Weimar-Wenkbach. YKK Deutschland GmbH has partnered with the nearby school in Niederwalgern to create a 2,500 square metre biodiversity zone surrounding the solar array, containing wildflowers, fruit trees, and bee hives. The space will serve as an educational resource where students can produce honey and jam, fostering hands-on learning while supporting local biodiversity.
Naama Ohana, Chief Commercial & Industrial Division at SolarEdge, concludes: "SolarEdge is proud to be supporting YKK in its efforts to improve the safety and performance of its energy infrastructure. This is why SolarEdge technology is on the rooftops of over 50% of Fortune 100 companies. As we continue to expand into the small-to-medium utility-scale ground-mount market, we are excited by the positive results of our first TerraMax installations across Europe and believe we have a compelling solution for this growing segment.”
