Glass-glass solar modules from WINAICO PFAS-free

Manufacturer’s declaration on the content of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances

Creglingen, 30.04.2024 – WINAICO has issued a manufacturer’s declaration in which the company confirms that its solar modules of the WST-NGX and WST-NGXB series are free from perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals, or PFAS for short.

PFAS are specifically used due to their water and grease-repellent properties as well as their UV resistance and durability. These properties are particularly useful for solar modules that remain on a roof for over 30 years. This is why it is often used as a component of a solar module, for example in the backsheet.

However, the problem is that PFAS is harmful to humans and the environment: the substance is virtually indestructible and does not degrade in nature. In addition, it is difficult to recycle or reuse perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, meaning that it can be used in different product cycles.
