Berlin, 07.03.2025. The general meeting of the German Offshore Wind Energy Association (BWO) has appointed Stefan Thimm as Managing Director of the association for a further five years. The association is thus focusing on continuity and strategic development in a decisive phase of the energy transition.
"Stefan Thimm has managed the BWO's office with great commitment and strategic vision over the past few years. Under his leadership, the BWO has opened up along the value chain and further strengthened its role as the central voice of the offshore wind industry. With his confirmation as Managing Director, we are relying on continuity and expertise to consistently drive forward the challenges and opportunities of the expansion of offshore wind energy," explains Irina Lucke, Chairwoman of the BWO e.V. Board of Directors.
"I would like to thank the BWO member companies for their trust and confirmation in my role as Managing Director," said Stefan Thimm. "Offshore wind energy plays a central role in the energy transition and ensuring a sustainable energy supply. I look forward to working with our members and other stakeholders to drive forward the development of the industry and actively shape the political framework under a new federal government. The next few years will determine the extent to which the statutory expansion of offshore wind energy will create value and employment in Germany and Europe."
Stefan Thimm has been Managing Director of the German Offshore Wind Energy Association since the beginning of 2020. Before joining the BWO, he worked for the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) from 2002, where he was promoted to Head of Renewable Energies in 2009.
