About the SGS Solar Test House

The SGS Solar Test House is a relatively new solar testing lab, located near Dresden, Germany, where solar modules are submitted to intensive testing as part of the module certification process. Holding a DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, the SGS Solar Test House can cover the entire quality control and analysis needs of these industry innovators, from raw materials to solar cells and modules.

SGS can perform failure analyses (e.g. for silicon wafers) down to microscopic levels thanks to the nearby SGS Institute Fresenius, a microelectronics expertise center that employs high precision equipment to perform atom-level surface analyses, element depth profiles and identification of impurities and contact problems.

Modules that pass testing receive a globally recognized SGS or SGS-TV quality mark (IEC 61215 and IEC 61730), which enables faster access to end-user markets. Besides testing to IEC standards, the SGS Solar Test House can perform, upon a manufacturer’s request, testing to other standards and check specific functional parameters.

Project Life Cycle Services

Apart from type testing and performance testing, SGS serves the whole value chain of the photovoltaic projects. Our Technical Due Diligence includes a review of design basis documentation, evaluation of performance and physical condition and site assessment.

During further phases of a photovoltaic or solar project life cycle (PDF 195 KB), such as fabrication, transportation and installation and commissioning, clients can rely on SGS’s technical consultancy services designed to assure and supervise safe and qualitative project execution by all members of the value chain.

For existing solar power plants, SGS offers Condition Monitoring and Maintenance Management, Verification of Performance and Failure Analyses as well as End of Warranty Inspection.

All SGS services are tailor-made to meet clients’ specific requirements.
