Starting tomorrow, the German and European wind industry will convene at Husum Wind 2025. This industry gathering comes at a pivotal moment. In recent months, a multitude of scientific studies have emerged on the energy transition and future electricity demand. These studies form the basis for the energy transition monitoring by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. A clear conclusion emerges: electricity demand in Germany is set to increase. Regardless of short-term fluctuations, experts like Leonhard Probst from the Fraunhofer Institute predict a long-term upward trend in demand. "Slowing expansion now merely postpones the pressure to act," warns Jan Rosenow from the University of Oxford, as quoted in the FAZ.*1 These findings suggest that, compared to previous years, the energy transition should not be slowed down. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy stated in its 100-day review: "Lower energy costs and advance the transformation."

The success story of wind must continue. "We need energy security and independence. With wind energy, we have the solution right here in Europe," emphasizes Flender CEO Evertz. "Over the past 40 years, an industry with hundreds of thousands of jobs has developed. We must harness this vast potential. The wind industry not only secures our energy supply but also serves as a significant economic factor with a well-developed supplier industry that creates and secures jobs."
Wind expansion: clear targets, insufficient implementation
Recent data reveals that Europe added only 6.8 GW of new wind capacity in the first half of 2025 - falling far short of expectations and insufficient to meet the EU's 2030 climate goals. Germany stands out as a positive pioneer in Onshore Wind, having issued a record 15 GW of permits in 2024 and is expected to build 5 GW this year.*2
Germany's efficient approval processes demonstrate that implementing EU directives is possible and prove that wind energy can reliably contribute to energy independence. "Europe has set the course; now we need quickly coordinated national measures. With wind energy, we have the solution here in Europe," says Flender CEO Evertz. The current debate on the energy transition in Germany must not hamper the planned expansion. "The industry always needs planning security for investments. My appeal to Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Reiche, is: we must not waver from our set goals and plans."
