First large-scale power plant with adhesive PV system based on crystalline modules

As of the end of January, SOLON SE has delivered crystalline modules for a roof-mounted solar power plant with a total capacity of 4 MWp in Massa, situated in Tuscany, Italy. The photovoltaic system SOLON SOLbond, which was specially developed for installation on industrial metal roofs, will be used exclusively in the project led by BioEnergon.

The power plant will be completed by the end of April and will be the largest of its kind to date using SOLON SOLbond on the roofs of an industrial complex. The frameless design of the modules is the distinguishing feature of the system. This design allows the modules to be attached directly to the roof using a silicone-based adhesive, without any roof or substructure penetration. Assembly time is substantially less when using adhesives, making installation uncomplicated in comparison to a conventional solar power plant with crystalline modules. The system has been approved for all snow and wind load zones, which means that no calculations with respect to structural engineering are required. The roof’s surface is fully exploited. In addition, flat metal roofs with a low loading capacity can now be used for crystalline photovoltaics when they are equipped with the SOLON SOLbond solar system. The system is extremely lightweight and features a surface load of approximately 8.5 kg/m².

BioEnergon Green Energy, the internationally active project developer with headquarters in London, and SOLON SE will build on this first joint project with the intention of expanding cooperation activities in the power plant segment in the long-term.
