EOLOGIX-PING, a leader in continuous blade monitoring for wind turbines, is proud to announce an expansion of its product portfolio to include state-of-the-art lightning detection systems. This latest innovation empowers wind turbine operators with more comprehensive tools for proactive maintenance, helping to confirm lightning strikes and minimize wasted time and resources.
EOLOGIX-PING has built a strong reputation for its high-quality sensor technology and is driven by its vision to become the world’s leading provider of continuous blade monitoring solutions for wind turbines. With the introduction of further advanced lightning detection products and a monitoring solution of lightning down conductors, the company is taking a significant step forward in supporting wind farm operators in safeguarding their assets.
“Lightning strikes pose a serious threat to rotor blades, control systems and other critical components of wind turbines, leading to costly repairs and operational interruptions,” says Thomas Schlegl, CEO of EOLOGIX-PING. “With our new products, Add-On Xweather, :ANALYZER LIGHTNING and :CONDUCTOR LIGHTNING, we offer tailored solutions that address different operation needs, enabling operation to maintain peak performance with confidence.” The new products are showcased at this year’s WindEnergy trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, with presentations held on Tuesday, September 24, at 4:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m.
Enhanced lightning strike insights with Add-On Xweather
The Add-On Xweather is a new upgrade to the existing :EVENT LIGHTNING product, developed in cooperation with the US company Vaisala Xweather. This software upgrade integrates data from the GLD360 and the National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN), offering wind turbine operators unparalleled insight into lightning events. The system provides detailed information such as signal strength, polarity, event type, distance and rise time. Thanks to seamless integration with :EVENT LIGHTNING, it enables alert notifications and prioritized inspections, allowing for a rapid response to any potential impact from lightning strikes.
Comprehensive analysis of lightning events with :ANALYZER LIGHTNING
The :ANALYZER LIGHTNING solution takes lightning detection to the next level by providing in-depth analysis of direct lightning strikes. This highly sophisticated system meets the stringent class 1 standards of IEC 61400-24/AMD1 ED2, ensuring that it detects and reports all critical lightning parameters. By identifying potential risks early, this solution helps extend the service life of wind turbines and ensures timely maintenance, ultimately reducing the risk of unexpected downtime.
Identifying faulty lightning down conductors with :CONDUCTOR LIGHTNING
:CONDUCTOR LIGHTNING detects interruptions in lightning conductors by measuring atmospheric charge differences between blades and the hub. It also provides accurate precipitation warnings, enabling the turbine control system to adjust blade speed and reduce wear. This solution is designed to eliminate the need for costly annual measurements of the down conductors and extend the lifespan of wind turbines.
