DNV & METAL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (MIRDC) TO COMBINE EXPERTISE IN PROMOTING RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY IN TAIWAN

Singapore, 22 October 2024 DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MIRDC, a non-profit foundation focused on the promotion of the development and upgrading of metals and related industries in Taiwan. The ceremony took place at the DNV Technology Centre in Singapore, marking the start of a long-term collaboration aimed at advancing renewable energy technologies in Taiwan. Signing was conducted on 18 Oct 2024 at DNV Technology Centre in Singapore by Yung-Hsiang, Lai, CEO of MIRDC, and Dr Matthew Rowe, Director, Power Grids, APAC, Energy Systems, DNV.

Under the three-year agreement, DNV and MIRDC will work together on a range of initiatives, including floating solar and wind technologies, energy storage, and hydrogen solutions. The partnership aims to contribute to Taiwan’s commitment for climate change action.

Taiwan has made significant strides in its net-zero 2050 policy, with a strong focus on low-carbon energy sources like hydrogen and ammonia. As renewable energy adoption grows, enhancing energy storage systems will be critical to ensuring a resilient domestic power supply. Renewable hydrogen, in particular, offers a key solution for integrating intermittent energy sources and stabilizing the grid. Additionally, hydrogen technology offers versatile applications, from decarbonizing industrial processes to enhancing transportation solutions. By investing in these innovative technologies, the island can stabilise its energy supply, support a green economy and significantly reduce its carbon footprint, aligning with its ambitious climate goals.

DNV has supported and continues to support companies in Taiwan in designing and implementing carbon reduction roadmaps, utilizing carbon reduction technologies, including hydrogen, ammonia, and CCS.

We are pleased to embark on this collaboration with DNV, a partner who is deeply invested in supporting the industry to accelerate the decarbonization of energy to achieve a net zero future.and also brings invaluable technical capabilities. MIRDC has been at the forefront of promoting sustainability and advancing renewable energy technologies, focusing on innovative solutions and research that align with global energy goals. By combining our expertise, we will create synergy that will further drive growth in the renewable energy technology in Taiwan,” said Ren-Yi, Lin, Chairman of MIRDC.

Reflecting on the MoU, Brice Le Gallo, Vice President and Regional Director APAC, Energy Systems at DNV shares, “It is our great pleasure to formalise this strategic collaboration with MIRDC to advance renewable energy technology in Taiwan and we are confident that we will have a fruitful and successful industry collaboration together. DNV is proud to leverage our trusted and established advisory and technical capabilities to champion the advancement of renewable energy technology in Taiwan in partnership with MIRDC, and it exemplifies our commitment in steering the transition to a low-carbon future in pursuit of net zero by 2050 goal.”
