Development of Operation Management software for PV and wind power plants

meteocontrol GmbH continues to drive the development of a consolidated platform for renewable energy generation through the acquisition of the DaWinci software solution for managing wind power plants. Negotiations with iTerra GmbH regarding the acquisition of this solution have been completed. In collaboration with iTerra, the software specialist in Niebüll, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, meteocontrol will integrate the functions of DaWinci in its current operation management tool VCOM virtual control room. The ultimate goal of meteocontrol is to provide operation managers of various types of power plants with an effective, holistic high-end solution for system monitoring and management.

Today meteocontrol is among the industry pioneers when it comes to developing a consolidated and standardized platform for monitoring and controlling the performance of PV and wind power plants. meteocontrol is headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, and has more than 30 years of experience in developing hardware and software solutions for photovoltaic (PV) systems. “The alliance with iTerra, a specialist in the wind power segment, enables us to benefit from an effective and mature software solution,” says Martin Schneider, CEO of meteocontrol.
He is particularly pleased to see iTerra employees joining the collaboration of the development project over the next two years “because we can ensure the optimal integration of the software functions in order to optimize the complete solution based on our many years of industry experience. At the same time, we are ensuring it is ready to handle the future challenges of grid feed-in management,” says Schneider. The operation management platform will be suited to meet the national and international demands of PV and wind systems around the world. The VCOM solution from meteocontrol already meets such global standards in the solar energy segment.

iTerra has in-depth software experience gained from monitoring and managing 1,300 wind power plants delivering some 3,000 MWp of power.
Once the new platform is complete, the current customer base will benefit from meteocontrol’s new development and experience which now covers some 37,500 monitored PV systems producing a total output of 10 GWp.”The development of a consolidated monitoring system offers customers a number of key advantages,” explains Dr. Peter Brodersen, CEO of iTerra, “because our system will be combined with the innovative functions of meteocontrol software. This will result in a state-of-the-art platform that satisfies all current requirements.” Both companies are striving to establish a long-term sales alliance.
meteocontrol is also conducting negotiations with the heat pump division of the Nobao Group to discover potential for including other energy technologies in this integrated solution.
