New digital tool gives instant insight into wind potential, planning constraints and development prospects – at no cost and with no obligation
Landowners across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland now have access to a free online tool to assess whether their land is suitable for onshore wind development, as momentum for generating attractive revenues from clean energy intensifies, following relaxations in UK government planning policies.
The de facto lifting of the ban on onshore wind development, and a renewed commitment to decarbonising the UK through the government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, is now driving opportunities for landowners to help shape future clean power potential and generate new revenue streams.
Having launched the Caeli Platform for Renewables for wind energy and land allocation into the UK market in May of this year, building on a strong track record of success in Germany, Caeli Wind has today (25.09.2025) introduced its Wind Energy Site Check, providing landowners with results within minutes from its digital platform, therefore giving instant insights into a site’s potential.
Acting as an independent arbitrator, uniquely bringing project developers, land agents and landowners together, the new Site Check means that within just a few clicks, private landowners, estates and communities receive a professional assessment of their site’s wind potential, planning situation and development prospects. The results include information on wind conditions, grid access, planning constraints and expected turbine yield.
“Landowners across the UK are sitting on untapped wind energy potential. Our Site Check tool provides them with instant insights into the suitability of their land and helps kick-start development,” says Heiko Bartels, managing director of Caeli. “It’s the fastest way to progress from interest to informed decisions.”
Speaking recently at the Onshore Wind Conference 2025 (16-17 Sept), co-organised by Scottish Renewables and RenewableUK, and hosted at Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Hans-Georg von Lewinski, head of international development at Caeli, told delegates that unlike conventional consulting, the new tool is fully digital. It is based on Caeli’s proprietary planning system, already proven across a wide range of wind farm projects in Germany.
“This approach reduces complexity and accelerates early decision-making, allowing landowners to explore opportunities without cost or risk. Following the site check, we offer UK landowners optional support in marketing their land to wind energy developers via our digital tender model,” he says.
As an ‘onshore wind accelerator,’ Caeli works across and on behalf of all stakeholders, matching project developers with pre-analysed and screened sites for wind energy projects, for estates and landowners looking to unlock that potential.
“The additional support ensures transparency and competition, enabling landowners to secure (higher) lease income, while retaining full control of the process, and all of these services are free of charge for the landowner,” he adds.
Caeli sees growing demand from the UK market, with more landowners seeking new revenue streams, as the government moves to ease planning restrictions on onshore wind. Leasing land for wind energy can help fill the gap of lost subsidies, with a significantly lower footprint than, for example, solar energy.
Alongside the political momentum, there is also growing public support for renewables, and landowners can position themselves as part of the clean energy solution, while also supporting energy security.
“This has created a much more favourable landscape for landowners to explore opportunities for significant new revenue streams, and by combining digital assessment with a structured marketplace, Caeli opens the door for more landowners to participate in the energy transition, linking with suited project developers,” concludes Mr von Lewinski.
