Renewable energies and maritime applications boost the automation expert.
Feldkirch, Austria – February 2025
Bachmann electronic GmbH is looking back on a successful financial year in 2024. The automation expert increased its turnover to a new all-time high of 108 million euros. This corresponds to an increase of 3.8% or 4 million euros compared to the previous year. Over the five-year period from 2019 to 2024, the increase amounts to 54%.
While the situation in the European mechanical engineering sector, one of the company’s three core markets, remains difficult, Bachmann electronic was able to continue to grow by making innovative additions in areas such as renewable energies, particularly wind energy. Energy management, including storage solutions based on battery and hydrogen technologies, is becoming increasingly important in this area. The company was also able to expand in maritime high-tech applications and in traditional shipbuilding. Here, Bachmann is driving the development of autonomous shipping and sustainable ship operating concepts.
Despite the recent sales record, the past year was marked by numerous challenges that continue to persist in 2025. „Disproportionate cost increases in Europe pose major hurdles for companies operating internationally. “Besides personnel costs, the main cost drivers were expenses for IT security and software”, explains Dr. Beat Rünzler, CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) of Bachmann. In addition, the legal framework is becoming more stringent. „The European Union’s promised reduction in bureaucracy has so far remained just lip service. Regulatory requirements are increasing rather than decreasing, which considerably slows down even powerful companies like Bachmann,” criticizes Bernhard Zangerl, Bachmann CEO (Chief Executive Officer), regarding politics.
Bachmann is pursuing a cautious growth strategy for 2025. „The political and economic conditions worldwide are unpredictable, which makes long-term planning difficult”, says CAO Rünzler. Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic. „We can’t do anything with too much pessimism,” jokes CEO Zangerl. „That’s why we will continue to push ahead with new opportunities and solutions in 2025 with full commitment and a healthy dose of optimism.”
